Looking at the back..bottom right corner is CDR/Tape in and out. Connect the in on the eq to the out of CDR/tape, connect the out of the eq to the in of CDR/tape.
You should then be able to use the CDR/tape monitor button to switch the equalizer in and out.
If is a parametric equalizer is zero watts. ,pionner should have a front, rear and subwoofer connections. If i remenber correctly, a single rca going to your stereo and the rest from eq to amp or amps. Hope this helps ,hope you get WIRED.

if the Eq has enough jacks to run every thing, that would go In to Eq an out to receiver, you were told correctly, for example cdplayer out - to Eq In - Eq- out to Receiver in
