Good you posted in fax machines. you do not want them to shred. if a shredder wont shred the entrance switch is glogged with paper dust or needs to be replaced. it is the sensor that sees the paper when you put it in

My new Quilt Expressions 4.2 sews fine when I piece but when I fmq I have problems with thread shredding How to fix?

Shredding thread could be several things. First, make sure the thread and needle are compatible. If the needle's eye is too small for the thread, it will eventually shred the thread. There are also needles with larger scarfs that will protect the thread from shredding as it repeatedly pierces fabric. Also, trying a different brand/type of thread may make a difference--focus on good quality thread for fmq. The tension may be set too tight. Finally, there could be a burr or snag somewhere that is causing the thread to shred.

Repair. reverse is OK but will not shred

There is a light sensor that is blocked by the paper that tells the machine to turn on when paper is loaded for shredding, it is most likely blocked with debris for a previous shredding.

Staples titanium shredder

Sometimes the sensor gets blocked by pieces of shredded paper. Unplug the unit and remove it from the paper bin. Turn it upside down and see if there are any "stray" pieces of shredded paper hanging on the unit. Remove the stray and replace the unit onto the bin making sure it is properly seated. If that is not the problem, try "tamping" the shredded paper into the bin and by doing so, giving the machine more room for the shredded paper. If neither of these help, refer to your owner's manual to see what recourse you may have.

Shreds in reverse only

I think there is a shredded buildup on the bottom. Unlpug the device ... turn it over and clear out the residue you will find there.

Sometimes I find the addition of shredder oil during the shredding process helps to eliminate this problem. Get the oil where shredders are sold.

Shredder drive gear is probably shredded - hard part to find or replace usually. Could mean a new shredder;-(
