A symbol or a letter appearing without touching it can be an indacation that you have a sticky key. try pressing your shift key 4 to 5 times and the stickey window will come up. uncheck all the boxes. if none of the boxes are check then it could be a defective keyboard. try booting your computer when you see the dell splash screen press f12 then go to boot to utility partition then go to diagnostic tree and select keyboard. better if your system is still under warranty just call dell for keyboard replacement. you can reach me at this number 18002643355 ext 6125624

I've worked on a lot of the CPX machines and never encountered this issue. Can you use the cursor when it does this and does it eventually go back to the way it should be? Try checking and cleaning the connector, it's under the keyboard. To remove the keyboard, take out the screws on te bottom of the machine marked with a K. Then take a small screwdriver and lift one side of the keyboard, at this point it should lift up, keep in mind that it's still connected to the board, so lift gently.

Cursor and text jumps for dell inspiron 1150

Click the Windows "Start" button or press the "Windows" key. The "Start" menu opens. Type "Cursor blink" in the "Search programs and file" text box. A list opens. Click "Change Cursor Blink Rate." The "Keyboard Properties" window opens. Click the "Speed" tab. A list of options appears. The "Cursor Blink Rate" section shows a "Cursor Blink Rate" slider displaying a range from "None" to "Fast." Click and drag the slider button to the "None" area in the far left portion of the "Cursor Blink Rate" scale. Click "Apply." Click "OK." The cursor stops flickering on the screen.

Cursor jumps all over the place! Cursor "arrow" shifts to cursor "four-arrrow" then decides to change zoom level all on its own. Cursor disappears, is nowhere on the screen then...

The Touchpad is the cause. Although some work fine for years others jump the the pointer every time you type (or sneeze). You can turn the touchpad off if you have a mouse for the laptop. Otherwise, you might need to exchange/purchase another model laptop.

Laptop keyboard issues

Is this a laptop? Some laptops will allow you to use these keys as the number pad/arrow pad as well in a certain mode. You will likely be able to turn off with a combination of the FN key plus one of keys F1-F12 (the function key will perform the action shown as a symbol on these keys).

If none of the symbols seems to indicate this mode. Try each combination and test to see which combination sets your keyboard mode back to normal.

Cursor jumps around

Try this software:

Touch Freeze will disable the touchpad when you start typing. I have not used it, but give it a try.

Also, your touchpad could be wearing out or a driver reinstall could be in order. My wifes Toshiba had a bad touchpad and the cursor would jump all over the place. I disabled it and she now uses an external mouse. No problems anymore.
