Jeff
I purchased a Genuine Dell Battery, It arrived dead with 1 test light on battery itself at 0% charged, It only lasted 2 mins before the laptop died running on battery, It doesn't charge the Dell battery at all The replacement battery only shows a 1% charge every 7 hours or so, nor do I have a yellow, green, orange light, The only time I get a light on the battery led is if i'm running on batteries and the battery level is below 10%, Its orange for low battery.
Thanks in advance to anyone who could help me.

the laptops are thin as as its used for a period of time the heat builds up inside the laptop not alot of room to breath like a desktop computer so the heat causes the soldering joints to melt causing the charging circuits/capacitor to tom come loose from the motherboard causing the current voltage not to reach the battery to charge it.
when you can power the laptop and run fine on ac without it powering off frequently its related to the charging circuits/capacitor on the motherboard.
if your computer will not run on ac and powers off frequently and you find the dc jack loose where the ac adapter plugs in then you dc power jack is the problem.
i just had mine repaired by a computer tech experienced solderer.
hope this helps others

The battery is down, you need a new replacment battery, but take care: don't buy
batteries that is too cheap. buy batteries from DNK Power, www.dnkpower.com
their dealers will help you out.
hope it's useful for you.

The motherboard charging circuit is the problem, the motherboard is not cheep $$$$. I soldered a 24awg wire on the + input of the DC power jack on the rear of the motherboard with a 1N4004 diode and a 47 ohm 1 watt resistor in series and soldered it to the power output point on the battery terminal. It will charge the battery slowly over night but a least it now charges.

My battery on dell c640 wouldnt charge for months, permanently dead. Then yesterday i left laptop on and closed lid. 6 hours later to my shock i had a fully charge battery??? Don't know why or how but it charged. Its down to 70% now and don't seen to be charging anymore????????

Is it a brand new battery? How do you know it's not charging? Also, if it's fully charged, it won't need charging, so the indicator light won't indicate charging.
Does the charge light do anything? Yellow? Green? Flashing?
Take the battery out and check the status indicator on the battery.
Finally, these take more voltage than the older C series; you may need to go to a PA-9 charger, if you haven't already.
Good luck

SOURCE: battery will not charge
Hi cdravi
Laptops have a power supply control section attached to, or part of the main board. This allows the laptop to switch charging on and off, and control power supply function to different areas of the machine. Sounds like you have a fault in this part of the computer. Off to Dell Service for that one I am afraid.

SOURCE: battery will not charge
Hi!
It's your ac adapter that is causing this issue. The ac adapter doesn't supply enough power or doesn't supply any power at all to the battery. Try to borrow another ac adapter from any inspiron system and if that works, then you need to replace the ac adapter, else, it's the motherboard.
Hope you find it helpful.
Thanks,
Karlox™ :)

I called Dell we went through the problem on the phone, it took some time to trouble shoot. It is a hardware problem with the mother board.
I have a Latitude C640 Notebook I plug it in and it works great. When I unplug the notebook it goes dead. I have gone to the bios and checked the battey status and it is charging. The charging light is blinking fast yellow.
please help
my DELL laptop will not charge the battery . i checked the battery
inside another computer there was no charging problem with the battery.
then i decided to disassemble the laptop by myself , the problem was
with the motherboard such that a capacitor near the power jack was not
in a good metal connection. but when i was trying to repair, i broke
it. now , the problem is how can i replace it with another new one.
there is no that small piece here in Iraq, and i dont know the
capacitance of the capacitor to replace it. what is the solution?
computer recognizes AC power but will not charge. Tried two different chargers and neither will charge the battery. This just started happening after i had the screen replaced.
I have a similar problem. My battery will not charge despite me buying a new notebook power adapter. I suspect this is a problem with the mother board. Is it?
I have a dell C640 the battery was dead when I purchased the laptop.
So I ordered a new replacement battery not a dell battery but a replacement under the part number.
and also bought a pa9 dell adapter
It came with a pa6 dell ac adapter which matches the specs on the bottom of the laptop, It would charge, so here is what it does, It sees the adapter and batter and will power with ac adapter alone and battery alone,so I have no battery light on the keyboard showing charging only if the battery goes below 10% windows shows power state idle and also in bios, but it actually charges very very slow like 2% every 10 hours. please help me thank you.
I have a C640 and the battery is dead (apparently) but i have opened up the battery and nothing is out of the ordinary. I get 4 green flashing lights and 1 orange someone please help as soon as possible as i need it portable for study reasons.
Thanks.
Same problem. New battery laptop wont charge it.
My laptop (Latitude D620) battery is new. It works but it does not charge! Why? Help me.
my Lattitude 600 had a dead battery. Got a new one which will only charge to 70%. When I run it out it won't charge again. This is the 2nd new battery leaving me to, obviously, believe the problem is within the PC. Can anyone help!

Hello guys,
I have a dell latitude C640 notebook which connected to power adapter it shuts it off by putting off the LED of the the power adapter. I have tried this with two working power adapters. The result is always the same. I am suspecting a short circuit in the motherboard and this is aways being taken care of by the power converter in order not to damage the entire power converter. Can somebody please suggest the best solution to the problem?
Thank you,
Sunday
