If you are unable to install anything and don't current;y have any virus protection- the next thing you could try once you get into safe mode is system restore. Go back to a date that everything was running normal. ONce you do the restore- I highly recommend adding virus/malware protection- such as Avast. (which is a free download and you are able to access from safe mode in the future if need be)

SOURCE: My Dell Inspiron 1520 will not load

Hello, Beth.

The most common reason is memory. Try reseating (remove and reinsert) the memory, first.

Power off the computer and disconnect all cables. Flip the laptop to the back. Remove the battery. The memory cover has 8 screws. Remove the memory modules at a 25 degree angle and reinsert them by pushing them down firmly by the ends.

If reseating the memory doesn't solve your problem, one module may be bad. So, remove and test each module one at a time.

Hope this helps.

SOURCE: Hi I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 and when turning on

Once you enter the setup and it loads the entire program, then you need to press the R key, which is for repairing the windows installation. This action will take you to the dos mode where further processing will be done. In the dos mode, system will ask you about installation place. Most of the people install their operating system in the C drive, which comes at number 1 option, so you need to press option 1. However, if you have so many partitions or you have installed the operating system then you need to choose the option according to your drive name. Here you need to enter your password as well, but if you have not set any password then you can simply press enter.
*Then there will be a c:\WINDOWS> command in a dos mode where you need to write, "Copy d:\i386\ntldr c:\windows. However, if you have different place of your installed operating system then you will write the address of that drive. This is the whole process and now you can eject the cd and can press exit to restart the system. Now this process will copy the correct NTLDR file from installation disk to your hard drive by making your system in the working condition.

What can i do to fix my dell inspiron one desktop from freezing at windows starting screen

press f8 vigorously as the computer begins to boot. this should take you to the windows start options screen, which includes diagnostic tools such as windows repair/restore and safe mode.

Windows repair (repair your computer) has a start up repair function which you can attempt, and if that does not work, there is a windows restore (from previous back up/restore point) in the repair utility as well.

If neither of those features work, choose "run in safe mode(/with networking)" at the f8 windows start options screen instead of "repair my computer". it may be usable in safe mode, and safe mode may reveal more clues about an actual hardware malfunction.

long story short, f8 before windows begins to cycle up.

I have a dell inspiron lap top with window's vista. There is a problem with it. Even when I turn it on with safe mode it goes to the log in screen, then says welcome, and then it goes to a black screen...

Usually what happens with my Dell Inspiron desktop, even on safe mode it goes to the logon screen. I have never experienced that with my Dell Inspiron 1318. When you log in and it shows you the black screen, try pressing the function buttons. Try F8 or F12. You should be able to start the computer in Safe Mode. If possible, enter Safe Mode with Networking so that you are able to search the web. If you don't mind me asking, why is it that you need safe mode? Is it a virus?

The dell inspiron 1318 shows the windows logo shortly after the screen goes black and I cant see the anything its like the screen is turning off

This sounds like a video driver problem. To find out reboot the laptop and press F8 to goto Safe Mode. If you can see the screen in Safe Mode then you have a video driver problem in normal boot. If you still have no video the you may have a bad motherboard and will need to take it to a repair shop

Dell Inspiron 1525 start up problem

This may be the result of a bad patch from Microsoft or other program. If you are using system recovery then you can try to restore back to before this occurred.
Please hit F8 when the computer is starting up to go into safe mode then use system restore. The other solution would be to go to safe mode then alter your start up programs . This is a bit more confusing but you can go to start run then type msconfig. You must be VERY careful when modifying this as it can cause more issues.
Hope this helps
