Hello, My Electrolux Oxygen motorized brush stopped working. How do I determine if it is the switch, a belt or something else that is causing the motor not to work?

Hey Lee,
We had the same problem and after taking it to a service guy who didn't even want to LOOK at the vacuum, it occurred to us to plug the powerhead brush directly into the handle and it worked! So, we were able to determine that the problem was the tube - not the brush.

We ordered a replacement tube.

Hope this helps.

Thank you tcshoppers24! After taking it apart myself thinking it was a loose connection somewhere, which did not work, your comment was the first to come up when I googled my problem and this was the first thing that I tried. It worked!! My problem was solved quickly and inexpensively! Thank you! Thank you!

The brush on my Electrolux Versatility will not spin. You can spin it by hand, but the motor will not spin it.

Hello, W/D here.
Since the brush will not spin, but the motor works, either the belt has come off of the motor shaft, the belt is worn past it's useful life, or the beater bar has seized.
1. Turn off the power (unplug).
2. Remove the bottom plate. With the plate off, use your finger to test the tension of the belt. It should be tight, and roll when you roll the beater bar by hand.
3. Remove the beater bar and belt. Inspect the beater bar, particularly by the bearings. Remove any twine, hair, etc.
4. Inspect the belt for abnormal wear. If there is any significant wear in the belt, replace it.
5. Reassembly is in the reverse order. Place the belt on the beater bar. While holding the beater bar close to it's position, place the belt on the motor shaft. Rotate the beater bar bearings to their proper position and install the beater bar. Replace the cover plate.

Best regards, --W/D--

The power to rotate the beater bar only works half the time..it seems to be very positional. In the past I could get it to work, now it just won't turn. Have tried the re-set button . Expensive vaccum...

Is the power nozzle motor itself not working? If it's not, the problem could be the wiring, the switch, the vacuum power switch, the connectors from hose to machine, or the circuit board in the machine.
My best guess would be the connector from hose to vacuum. The vacuum connector are cheaply made and held in place by flimsy plastic.
If the pn motor is running, it's most likely a broken belt. Initially a worn or loose belt would cause intermittent operation of the brush. Replace it and the brush should work.
Depending on the part, your machine may still be covered by warranty. Check your manual or internet for warranty information.
If under warranty, take it to the store your purchased it from for repair or replacement.

Does anyone know how to get the bottom off the electrolux Epic 3500 SR I need to check the beater brush? Thanks Jim

Actually the top comes off from the bottom base. Remove the underside screws, flip the machine over and gently remove the gray cover from the motor and brush assembly. Once inside, remove two more screws holding down the brush cover which is also part of the tunnel. It will reveal the brush, belt, and much dirt so be prepared.

Brush not working??? Belt is fine.

Even though the brush is spinning, you probably need to replace the belt2_bing.gif because it is stretched. It is probably slipping on the beater bar...

I have an Electolux Oxygen canister vacuum and the power head suddenly stopped working. It is only a few months old. Any suggestions.

1. You have to verify if it's simply the belt that has broken and the spinning brush isn't spinning because of it. Place your ear next to the top of the power head to listen for the power head motor. If electricity is getting to the head you'll hear the motor and know to inspect the belt.

2. If the motor doesn't run, look at the electrical pin connectioins in the pipe from the hose to the head. Are they burnt? If yes a new wand is needed. Also check the electrical connections in the hose handle and make sure they are not burnt.

Let me know if this helps

Motor shaft wont turn on EL2050

Have you tried running the brush motor without a belt on it? Does it not spin without the belt? If so, you may have worn motor brushes (not too expensive parts, but make sure you order both brushes, or make sure they are sold as a set). If your motor is in good condition (you can check the brush motor by hooking it up to a momentary power source NEVER apply constant power to a motor that is not mounted to either the machine or something to keep it from running away) There is sometimes a switch down towards the brush head assembly that could be bad.
