Sounds like the convergence board, try replacing the STK voltage regulators and any resistors that may burned or discolored. This problem is causing the power supply to shut down probably.
You have a defective light engine and Hitachi is aware of it. Here's what you need to do...recently went through this. Call Hitachis customer relations department at 800-654-7013 and tell them you have a defective light engine. At first, they will act like they've not heard of this problem but they are all too familiar with it. They will give you the names of some certified dealers in your area. Once the tech comes out and confirms the problem, call Hitachi back at the 800 # I listed and they will call and confirm with the dealer that you have a bad light engine. They will send a brand new light engine to the dealer (Hitachi will cover the cost $1500) and the dealer will call you to come out and install.
Here's the kicker, if you're not still under warranty, Hitachi will cover the expensive part but you will have to pay the install. Our install was $400 but others on this site have paid around $200. If you're still under warranty, Hitachi will cover the part and install.
Please do not let any dealer tell you that you have to pay for this part. Hitachi has not recalled this part but they are replacing it to you for free...you just pay the install. Also, deal only with their customer relations at the 800# I listed.Good Luck:)
loss of picture with sound ..loss of picture could one of many problems.. these units have serval specal fuses that a tech would need to check. loss of high voltage is a possibility. i would think this would be worth getting a tech to check out, the fact you still have sound may be a positive,
Picture int disappears leaving snow on screen
Resolder the Xtal in the tuner
No picture
Replace IC (TDA8385J)
Sound but no picture
Check the LOT cable for short circuit
