Tape mechanism problems can be quite complicated but they can usually be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be diagnosed by a qualified service technician.

How do I fix the tape holder system on my camcorder? The door won't lock, and the cassette won't get inside the compartment.

hi,
is it close without a cassette ? if so the reel sensor in the cassette compartment may be faulty. if the head drum not rotates the cassette drive will not work correctly, if so please loosen the head drum with a plastic rod or some tools like that. do not put your finger in hence sometimes will jam your finger. remember don"t touch the scanning chip of the head.

Aj-d200 video camera, cassette door stuck partially open. best diagnosis and/or remedy?

Partially open sounds like a mechanical problem with the cassette housing/door assembly. The door usually stays fully open or will not open at all, caused by component failure on the mechanical driver board. Check to make sure nothing is stuck in the mechanism, like a label or a broken piece from a cassette. If the door will move, but will not latch closed, the problem is most likely on th emechanical driver board.

8mm Cassette mechanism fails to eject or sometimes fails to close

This camcorder is at least six years old now, and replacements are available quite cheaply vie on-line auction sites, probably at far less than the cost of repair.

Loading tapes

I have the same problem. If I remove the battery for a few seconds, then replace the battery and wait about 5 seconds, the tape compartment closes.

DCR-HC42

  1. I'm having the exact same problem. It wont accept the cassette...only half way then errors. It will close fully without a cassette as well. hmmmmm
Comment by Guest, posted on Apr 02, 2008 Load cassette, turn it on, then message says re-load cassette. Door to cassette compartment only works half way. After fiddling with power, can get the cassette door to open and close all the way, but not with cassette. Tried several brands of cassettes, no joy.

Camcorder Will Not Close

This is due to the improper closing of the cover below the cassette compartment(where the USB, 3894 ports r there)
Pl. close it properly. Then open the cassette door completely, and then close. It works.

Cassette warning

The switch is board monted and is actuated by the loading compartment when it is closed near the rear of the cabinet. It requires an extensive tear down to remove the board before the switch can be replaced. There are other problems that occur also. Does the drum spin up? If so, then the tape is rcognized but its another problem. Good luck, magic seadog
