HERE'S WHAT WORKED FOR ME PER SONY TECHS:
Take? OUT the battery or disconnect the AC cord.
Turn the camera ON (tape, memory, edit settings) for 15 seconds.
Turn camera to off setting.
Plug battery or AC cord back in.
VOILA!

First of all you must go to Play Mode' of your Digital Cam.Then goto Menu on your screen and change the option USB STREAM from 'OFF' to 'ON'. Now plug your Camera to USB windows will detect it.
This is usually caused by an oxidized or defective Audio/Video drum. Try running a cleaning tape through the camera. If this does not solve the problem the camera will need to be serviced by a qualified service technician.

It sounds like some electrical damage occurred, and this isn't good, since sometimes the only rememdy is to replace the main control board (since they don't go to the component level when fixing them).
The best you can do is contact Sony and see if they can offer a repair or exchange service.

try it without inserting cassette if it closes correctly and doesnt load with cassette then 99% problem is with drum motor.look out for drum motor connector remove it clean it with pencil eraser and try again if it works, fine or just replace drum motor
You do not mention what windows you have sadly, all I will tell you is that no Windows Vista/Win 7 PC's will see a USB camera, sorry you need Firewire cable to download.
Hi, Camcorder video head required cleaning because gray lines come in playback when video head got clogged/ dirty. Put video head cleaning tape and playback it as per instructions. hope this will help you. Thanks.
