Ps3 Can't start - correct hard disk not found

Hi i get this problem after i upgraded my 60gb Hard drive to a 320gb. At first it worked but after an hr or so when i switched my ps3 back on it gave me a message saying "Can't start - correct hard disk not found "
i have to switch the console off and on untill it finally shows me the list of user names and not the error message. ive read other reports off this online but no solid solutions.
i Have removed the drive and put it back in and also ive reformatted the drive succesfully using the ps3 format method and still no luck after a while.
Also the drive i have is an
"Western Digital Scorpio WD3200BEVT 320GB 2.5" Internal SATA Hard Drive"
please help if you can
thanks

I brought ps3, and after 1 month it fall down from 2.5 feet height and had a small ( small means very small ) damage on the corner of the console. It was working but after 3 month it gives me error like Can't start - correct hard disk not found.
I took the ps3 and went to the vendor for servicing. but he took his hand up by saying " it is damage by you, and we can not take it under warranty condition.

    What i do?

I found out the problem thats causing this error. well these guys have in this link:

    http://community.eu.playstation.com/play...

you need to add a jumper to the hard drive for it to work correctly, be carful though western digital hard drives no longer support the jumper bypass. but i got rid of my hatd drive and got a seagate brand 320gb and still got the error untill i did this and so far so good all is working.

I do believe that it is a firmware issue and not a hard drive issue. If it where a true hard drive failure, your hard drive would be completely useless. Since this error only happens at start up i believe this is what happens.

1) PS3 starts-up and displays the "wave" and plays the "music"
2) The hard drive spins and the PS3 firmware is looking for the "files" on the hard drive for start-up
3) If the start-up files are not found in a certain amount of time, this message is displayed.

I may be wrong but this is my guess.

This just happened to me today, and it sucks! It seemed to be working fine this morning, but I turned it back on to play music, and I got that message! :(

So... does turning it off and on for a while get it to work again?

And does dusting it out help? How do you do that?

  • Anonymous Jul 30, 2008

This happened to me today. The PS3 was working great this morning while playing Oblivion, but I turned it on to play some music a little while later, and I got that message!

So does either dusting it out, or turning it on and off help it to work? I'm kinda scared at the thought of mucking about, taking the hard drive out and stuff, so is that easy enough to do? Does that leave any damage?

I am trying to install a WD3200BEVE hard drive into a Dell Inspiron 6000 and it reads "Internal HDD Error" I received this hard drive from Dell after my previous hard drive WD600 went bad. Do I...

It's possible that the only problem is that the replacement disk-drive needs to be "initialized" for first-time usage. Or, it's possible that your Dell won't support your new _larger_ disk-drive.

Did they send you a disk-drive with _greater_ capacity than your old 60GB drive?
It's possible that they "upgraded" you, because they had no (small) 60GB disk-drives in inventory.

Take your Dell "System Restore" set of CD/DVD disks, and reinstall Windows.
The Windows Installer will "initialize" your disk-drive.

PS3- cannot start. Correct hard disk not found.

when your ps3 is standing upright the tall way tip it over and look at the bottom there should be a plate that says something about the hard drive. get a flat screwdriver and pry on the right side of the plate. The hard drive is directly behind that plate and is secured by a blue screw. take out the screw and flip out the little u shaped handle and slide it to the right and pull out your hard drive. Try blowing out all the connections and putting it back in hope this helps

Playstation 3 upgrade

Yes, you can. And Sony lets you officially do that. Just for that it has a slot on the side. You just need to remove the screw and pull out the HDD. You can then replace it with any capacity 2.5" HDD also popularly known as laptop hard drives.

PS3 corrupted hard disk

Yes. All you need is a Seagate SATA 2.5" hard drive. It doesn't matter how many GB it has. If you have the 20GB or 60GB model of PS3 for goodness sake keep it!! That model is backwards compatible and will play PS1 and PS2 games. The 40GB unit does not have this luxury. I hope this helps you. Good luck and happy gaming!!

My Playstation 3 will not start. It keeps coming up with an error message saying, "Cannot start. Correct hard disk is not found." Any ideas why?

Yes, You need to re-format your hard drive via your laptop or purchase a new hard drive.. sometimes they become invalid/corrupt and you need to reset it or put a new one in.. I suggest taking it out and put it back in to see if it was knocked loose if not then you need a new hd! a 60gb ps3 original via eba is 40$
