Compressors are normally 100-120 degrees when being cooled by a condenser fan motor. If there is no fan motor near the compressor then it can run up to 180 degrees, so the compressor temp by itself doesnt mean much. You can take an ampmeter and clamp it around one of the wires to the compressor to see if it is running, drawing anywhere from 1-2.5 amps or trying to start, in which case it may draw up to 20 amps every 3-5 minutes.

Ref/ and frezer not cooling. Hot Point

Check for power to unit by unplugging and plug lamp into outlet to see if you have power. If running it is possible it is stuck in defrost mode if you can locate the defrost timer take screwdriver and advance timing knob until you hear click and compressor should start. If this works you will have to replace timer and probably heaters and thermostat. The next worse problem is bad compressor.

Kenmore sidebyside 53552200 stoped cooling and defrosted completly light still works both frezer and refrigerator not getting cold

It could be stuck in defrost. Check your defrost heater, and see, if it is still hot. If it is, then the defrost timer is stuck. When it goes into defrost, everything, stops working, but the defrost heater and light. As long, as the defrost timer is on, nothing else will work, as far as the compressor, freezer fan, and any cooling/freezing.

Frezer works not frig

Contact a professional to check if there are any restrictions between the freezer and refrigerator unit. The freezer should drop cool air into the refrigerator portion to help cool it down. Is the compressor running and do you feel it being hot?

MOTOR IS RUNNING BUT NOT GETTING COLD

you say motor do you mean the compressor, if so is it making any heat if so it says it is trying to work. common problem if so is a frost build up in frezer on back panel keeping cold air to circulate to refrig. from freezer. also check to see if freezer blower fan blowing air. back to compressor, it has large return line should be cold and a smaller high side line usually 1/4 inch and this should be hot if compressor is doing it's job.check cooling motor by compreesor also to much heat will shut it off.

Burning Smell

Keep it unplugged and look for burned wires, or rubber wires hardened from extreme heat. This will be a good start in finding what is going wrong. One more thing to check is if the compressor is heating up after running for a while. Let it run for 20 min or so, shut off the power and feel the compressor. Is it hot?
