I have a NEC MT850 projector. The problem is when I turn it on. Every thing starts up but the lamp. The lamp will start lighting up but never goes to full power then it shuts off after about 3 seconds and the status light starts blinking red every 4 seconds. The fan shuts off after awhile and all I’m left with is a orange power light and flashing red status light. I saw that it may be a temperature error. I took off all the filters cleaned them ran a vacuum though the unit, that didn't work so I aimed a fan at it and it still does the same thing. I’m stumped.

I think I have the same problem, have also brought a new lamp and still get the same error. 4 second red light on, four seconds off repeat.

Did you figure out how to fix it?

The status light is on our NEC MT850 and the bulb looks fine. What other problems could it be?

1,Check the fans ,whether each fan is running, when you turn on the projector
2,if the fans run, then ,check the lamp or lamp ballast
turn on the projector ,at the same time ,if you can hear a continuous beep beep sound (the ballast igniting the lamp)
means the lamp may be fault, and other parts is working well

Have a nice day!

Unit is probably set for ceiling mount or reverse screen projection. In the options menu there will be settings to alter it back to normal aspect.

I turn my mt850 on & the picture is blue

You most likely have a defective blue LCD panel which is a common problem for a projectors this old.
This is an exspensive repair if parts are still available, probably not worth fixin.

NEC MT1050 Lamp Error

Does the status light stay on red? If it does then the lamp timer has exspired and will not let the projector turn back on until it is reset, at which time you should replace the lamp. To reset the timer you need the remote control, with the unit plugged in in standby mode hold down the power off button for 30 to 45 seconds until the status light goes off.

NEC MT850

As there were no indicator lights lit I focused on the AC. The projectors work as they should in another location and as such I am fairly certain the problem is associated with the AC power in the particular room. I haven't isolated the exact condition as yet.

Thanks
