You'll need to hard reset your PSP and restore it to its factory settings. Once this is done, your PSP should work perfectly.
Hold the power button on the right side of your PSP down until the device completely powers off. Wait at least five seconds after the power is off before proceeding to the next step.
Press and hold the Select and Start buttons located in the bottom right corner of the PSP.
Press and hold the Square and Triangle buttons (located on the directional pad) while continuing to hold the Select and Start buttons.
Press the power button while holding these four buttons. When the flash (logo) screen appears, you can release the four buttons and your PSP will be reset to its factory settings and the screen will no longer be blank.
try dismantling your psp and see the inside of it, you said you cleaned the buttons. try to see if the chips inside the psp are sort of dirty and stuff, the access points in wear the buttons touch, if this still doesn't work, just go to a original SONY STORE.
funny how you mention the wet at the very end of your message! ;)
sounds like there is water beads sliding around on the electronics inside. i would not start it again until it is completely dry. perhaps put it in the hot water cupboard overnight or something. don't risk it burning out, or worse while it is still moist.
It is more than likely the cable that is behind the buttons. We are going to be adding this repair service to our website today. I recommend getting a full diagnostic however to find out any and all problems with your PSP.
You can visit and pay by a SSL encrypted checkout through Paypal. You don't even need to have a PSP required. If you have any questions you can call or email us. All of our contact information is on our website - psp repair.
Press the "home" button on the PSP (it's a tiny button to the lower left of the screen) then use the left-right directional buttons to find "Settings", then the up-down buttons to find "USB Connection" on the PSP.
Press the "X" button (you got it, the round button with the "X" on it) and your PSP should display "USB Connection".
In a moment or two your computer should tell you that a new USB device has been connected, then show you a new generic hard drive, usually E: or F:
Click on the drive letter that corresponds to the PSP unit.
Now create a new folder on that drive and name it "psp".
Within the new "psp" folder create another folder, and name it "music".
Copy your desired mp3 files into the new "music" folder.
When you're done copying your desired music tracks, press the "O" button on the PSP to get out of USB connect mode.
you prolly need a new lcd. go to ebay or google and buy a new lcd or a lcd+backlight combo which will run about 60.00 open the psp and replace the lcd and the issue will be solved.
