REPLACE THE LASER OR THE UMD DRIVE AND THIS PROBLEM WILL DISAPPEAR IMMEDIATELY.

OH THEY ALSO HAVE SLIM AND PHAT FOR EACH ONE. GET THE UMD DRIVE FOR YOUR PSP.

Try cleaning the 'UMD or the reader

go to system settings den umd cache-imd auto start

Try a different UMD, it might be scratched. If not, take a soft cloth, and clean the lens. Look on google to see where the lens are located.

send a complant to sony compony saying when i got psp it did not work if  thay comform the leter and ask to see it rip all the insides out and they might give you a ........ psp , ps2 , ps3, or  some think from sony

really though my unds wont play at all everything else is fine but thats the only problem!

You might have PSP stop reading UMD discs, First you will do some trouble shooting with what might be wrong with your PSP unit.

first is the Disc Spinning motor. This will not let The disc in the UMD spin. On a working PSP you will hear the disc start to spin up, then you can hear the laser start to twitch, followed by the laser motor moving the laser down the rails.

2nd is something stuck in the UMD gear, try to clean the gear of arm of dust, plastic, soda, and even hair.

and at the last is the actual laser itself. It will not focus the laser to read the UMD disc.

your lasers Dirty or damaged.
These usually last about 14-18 months sometimes longer, depending on amount of use. ( operating hours ) your best solution, is to try blowing into the UMD Drive, may be lucky and remove a speck of dust. Or you,ll need a UMD Replacement.
Best-cheapest place is e-bay.
You,ll also get fitting instructions. Alternatively is to take it to a repair shop. But don,t expect much change out of £75.00.

You should check to see if another UMD will work first.  Also try them in another PSP.  If your sure your PSP is not reading Discs, then and only then, Clean the Laser lens carefully.  Using a strong flashlight and magnifying glass, look into the UMD drive with the UMD door open and look for debris like hair or lint, and also dirt and dust.  A black switch pokes up on the left inside the UMD drive.  Its a little black stick.  When you press down on this Black stick, your UMD disc motor should spin for  second or two.  The UMD laser lens should light up when your press this switch.  If any of this does not happen, you need to replace the UMD drive. If you need someone to do this which if you have never done it, you need some knowledge big time.
