Hi, My dishwasher is about 6 years old and lately it is not properly washing the dishes. We've noticed that the glasses look foggy and the plates are sometimes not as clean as they used to be. Also usually after the wash cycle when we open the dishwasher door, the door is very clean. Lately it is still a little dirty. Any ideas on what the problem can be?

Hi

If you are observing that the dishes are not clean, then you’ll need to follow certain steps to be sure where exactly the issue. First thing to check for is the detergent cup and spray arms. Check if the dishwasher’s spray arms are working fine and all the holes of the arms are clear. Now try using a different detergent like gel or liquid based detergent to see if it helps.

Dishes are left unclean when the dishwasher is not filling in properly or when the water pressure is low. Check for water pressure and water inlet valve. The water inlet valve if faulty will draw very little or no water. However, if you observe that water pressure is fine and there is no issue with the Fill valve then check whether the dishwasher is draining. If it’s not draining then see if the drain hose is plugged or clogged. If drain hose is fine and the dishwasher is still not draining then there is some issue with the drain pump or drain filter. To check this you’ll need to disassemble the dishwasher and trace back the drain hose to a pump, remove the drain hose from pump and clean the debris from the pump and filter. Make sure you have lots of towels as there would be a lot of water coming out from the pump.
Next thing to check if the dishwasher is draining and filling properly is water temperature. Water temperature should be between 120 and 140 F. If water is not hot enough then heating element has gone bad, to check the element you’ll need a multimeter. Use the multimeter and check if the Rx1 reading on the meter shows reading between 1200 (1.2K) ohms and 1500 (1.5K) ohms, if not the heating element has died.

Please post back if more information is required.

My dishwasher is about 4-1/2 years old. Lately I am getting a film on my dishes especially glasses. I use Finish rinse agent. Is there something I can do?

First perform a vinegar cycle wash in the dishwasher. Pour a cup of vinegar into the bottom of the dishwasher. Keep the temperature at the highest setting possible and perform a wash cycle. Then start using a dishwasher most probably that would solve the problem. If this does not solve the problem then there must be some parts worn out or faulty creating the problem.

There are many probable causes of failure .

To clean the dishes the water temperature is essential. It the water is not hot then the dishes will not be cleaned properly. So check the water temperature.

Also check the filter in your dishwasher.Clean the filter if there is accumulation of debris in the filter.

The dishwasher is not cleaning properly, glasses look like they have a film on them, plates also do not look clean & the dishwasher has a foul smell.. like rotting food in it.. we use the top quality...

Check the main drain system connected to the dish washer hose pipe. Clean the junction if clogged. This smell might orginate from the pipe.

Check incoming water quality. If hard water is noticed, use softener attachments to the inlet.

Fill dish washer salt in the dispenser. Refer user guide. The salt will help softening the water to certain extent. Finally check whether rinse aid dispenser filled with the rinse aid liquid.

Why do my dishes no longer seem to get clean? The glasses are spotty and foggy, small bits of food left on the plates, etc. They not completely dirty as they were when I put in to wash, but they're...

The problem is hard water. There is a new product out called the dishwasher filtration system. It filters the water before it enters your dishwasher. It works amazing and has a money back guarantee. You will love the way your dishes look after the first load. It is also very affordable (like 70 bucks). Go to www.dishwasherfilter.com to find out more info.

7-8 year old KitchenAid washes dishes on bottom, but not on top

Position the spray arms in a certain position. Activate the dishwasher for a few seconds and then examine the position of the spray arms. If the upper spray arm has not moved, then either there is no water coming to the spray arm or the spray arm is clogged.
