Refrigerator stopped cooling 2 days ago. Freezer works fine. What is broken? Appliance is four years old. Replaced compressor almost exactly 1 year ago.

a bad defrost timer can be checked with a multi meter

There is n such reset button,but first check and confirm that water line is running in to the ice maker drawer.Is the water getting into icemaker or not.

Probably be cheaper to get new one, it has probably had the compressor fail or a leak in the cooling system.

Four possibilities.
1. The condenser cooling fan motor located on the bottom back of the machine between the compressor, and box condenser has failed, and needs replaced. It should be running if the fan in the freezer is running.
2. Loss of refrigerant or a restriction in the system. Testing limited to a qualified tech only.
3. The combo relay overload mounted on the compressor( under a cover) has failed. Most appliance parts houses will be glad to test them for you.
4. Locked compressor. Tech only solution.

PS. If the machine is less than 5 years old, the compressor is under warranty. Contact your selling dealer.

There are several things that could be causing this. Your compressor could be going bad. Your freon is low. Think of your refrigerator as a air conditioner. Pull it out and vacuum all the dust from your filters, make sure the water is draining properly and not clogged up. Is your unit still under warranty. How old is your unit. Try this. Unplug the unit for about 5-10 minutes, this will give it enough time for the compressor to cool down. Plug it back in and listen for the compressor to kick on. That's the big black round thing at the bottom in the back of your refrigerator. Listen to it and what the sound is, does it click when it turns on, does it shudder when it turns on. Let me know the sound. By unplugging the unit and doing this the compressor should kick on in 1-3 minutes after plugging it back in. If your unit is over 8 years old you might consider another one. Check out craigslist, as you can get some great deals. Let me know if I can help you further.

Our new 10 day old top frig/bottom freezer stopped freezing, then the top refrigerator stopped cooling, but the light was working and you could hear some motor running and an occasional "clicking" sound. One internet blogger adsvised unpluging the appliance for 1/2 hour. Another advised 2 hours. Then plug in the appliance and see if it started cooling/freezing again. Our experience = nothing. We called the repair folk and the new frig/freezer had a failed compressor and a broken timer!! We were not thrilled. Suprisingly the store we bought the ap[pliance from gave us a $50 gift card to compensate for the lost food. They didn't have to do that - so ask for it; can't hurt.

My fridge and freezer just stopped cooling all of a sudden. I hear the compressor running and every couple of min there is a clicking noise. Is there a reset switch or something that I can do to start it working again? The lights are working but the freezer and fridge are room temp.

The Overlaod and relay is burnt and has to be replaced .I am a appliance service technician i have seen this lots and if that don,t work check the warranty cause the compressor is bad .
