I have a Dell Dimension 1100 and bought a ATAPI - DVD A DH20A4P DVD/RW and installed it into the Dell. Now it has 2 CD/DVD roms. One DVD/RW (ATAPI) and one CD/RW/DVD rom(stock for it). But when I am in windows (XP - Home Ed) and go under my computer it recognizes the drive as E:/ but only as E:/ DVD RAM and wont burn dvd's or recognize and dvd's in the drive and some cd's for that matter. But it does work like a regular CD drive most of the time. It has the driver install 9p59 firmware. Help please!!!! Going CRAZY!!!!

those are the basic drivers for all cd. dvd, and rw drives. if you are trying to use the drive to burn a cd/dvd you need to purchase software for it your download a free burning software from filehippo.com called xpburner or burnerxp i cant recall the exact name
you can try two solutions
1) go to device manager and uninstall the primary and secondary ide controller under the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers and than restart the system and than chk it if that works out
2 ) if the first option doesnt work try to update the firmware of the drive
