Hi there I need to know where to get a cheap cd rom drive for a dell dimension desktop. I can get one off of dell, but I need to know what the model number is so I can order it. Please let me know if you can help.
Best place to go is www.newegg.com brand or model is your preference. The only thing you need to know is if you have sata or ide interface. If you need to find out just open your case look at back of old drive sata will have 2 small cables, ide will have a ribbon cabble & multi colored cable. To swap out simply pull out old drive & look at jumper position on old drive place jumper in same place for new drive. Plug in cables put in case & your done. Windows will recognize & install drivers automatically. You do not have to install software that comes with it unless you want to. Be sure to shut down computer & unplug power cable from back of computer 1st.

Any IDE CD-ROM Drive will do just fine... Just make sure you configure the jumpers according to your specific setup (look at the old drives jumpers if you don't know).
Definitely, yes. Yes it will fit in your system without any problem. Just remove the Cd-Rom drive and install the Lite-On. If you need further help, let me know.
CD-ROM drive can be taken out by opening the tower side cover. ther is a cord at the back of the drive which needs to be pulled out. then from the front side pull the drive out. also be careful to check it has some screws at the side or not. if not then it should come out easily.
It is not difficult to change cd/dvd drive. Open cpu cabinet. Then remove icd cable and power cable from cd/dvd drive. Then remove screws of old cd/dvd drive. Then you can pull it from cabinet from front side. Then put your new cd/dvd drive into it's position then lock it with screws. Then connect ide cable from motherboard and power cable to drive. Then you can use it. If you connect to drive with 1 ide cable means if you connect harddrive and cd/dvd drive with 1 cable then set harddrive as master and cd/dvd rom as slave you can set it slave with jumper settings. It is in back side of cd/dvd drive. There is instruction how to slave it with jumper. Let me know if you need further assistance. Thanks for using FixYa.
Hi! You may have a problem with the optical drive/CD rom drive. The lens may be dirty so i suggest you run a cd lens cleaner. If it still doesnt help, I believe you need to buy a CD rom replacement. Hope this helps.
hi go to start, settings, control panel, click on sound and audio devices. on the volume tab locate properties and click on it. now another box will appear look for cd volume and adujst it whist playing a cd until the sound is less distorted.
please rate me if this solves you problem.
Open your tower and reseat all the cables that are running to the CD ROM (generally a flat white cable). Also reseat the other end of the cable to the motherboard too.
Ensure that CD Drive is enabled in BIOS (Press F2 as the system boots up to enter into BIOS)
Please get back if you need any further help.
Thanks for your advise. It help me a lot.
