Can't remove agitator

I have a GE profile washer model wpsr3100w1ww. It is making a "clinking" noise and the agitator seems loose.
The agitator has about a 1/2 inch play when lifting up and down.
I am sure that is use to set in the drum with the base of the agitator sitting about 1/2 inch above the bottom of the drum. The agitator now sits with the bottom of the agitator touching the bottom of the drum.
I am trying to remove the agitator. The instructions says to pull up sharply but thats not working.
I pull off the fabric softerner dispenser and there is a translucient cap under it. I have been to other web sites that says to remove that cap and there is a bolt under it , but I can't get the cap off.
I want to remove the agitator and drum to look under it. HELP

Get 2 2x2 pieces of wood or 2 oak handles, 20 inches long. lay on on top of the other on the top of the washer. Loop a rope or ******** both sides of the agitator over one of the pieces of wood and tie it to the top piece of wood. Twist the top piece of wood slowly. As the 2 loops tighten up under the agitator the bottom piece holds the rope firmly across the top of machine. This save you from getting socked in the face by the agitator when it come off. You can buy an agitator remover but why not make you one and have so much fun doing it See the pic below? just ease a stick above the 2x4 and start slowly twing till she jumps out. Note: I didn't make this design I found it on line. I would run the rope under the agitator instead of taking a chance on breaking the fins. But that's just me.The trick is to grab it by the neck instead of the base. So try that before concocting a agitator remover. The agitator just snaps on. The drive block under the agitator is stripped out Wh43X10009 can't remove agitator - 91c45a0.jpgis the part number. Here it the manual3c3b88a.jpg

GE Profile top load washer made loud buzz/screech noise. Clothes are coming out with dirt, cat hair, fuzz, etc even after washing twice. And now hot/warm water isn't working.

When you took the hot water hose off, did you check the little gauze strainer inside where the hose screws? That black in the water is iron and scale from the hot tank. See the video I added.

Buzzing could be the motor or controller knob, but if its' running, don't worry.

Screeching is normally belt slip. You can get a can of belt conditioner which makes it supple and grippy.

A GE washer making noise that sounds like squealing likely has a damaged drive belt. This rubber belt is suspended on a pulley, connecting the tub to the drive motor or transmission in front and top load washers. Wear and tear can cause the belt to loosen or fray, resulting in a squealing sound.

Agitator is loose

Does the plastic cap unscrew (CCW)? If you get it off, there is a plastic block attached to the top of the shaft that should just pull off. Check it for cracking or splines that are torn out inside--replace it if damaged. Make sure the cap screws down tight.

Ge profile washer WPSR3100W1WW won't agitate

I see this pretty regular. You have a bad transmission. This is very common with the older GE's. To replace the transmission will run around $340 / $400. Not sure about your area. Just be glad you got this much use out of it, you are one of the very few that have. From 1998 till 2007 I owned my on repair company where I did GE's warranty work in my area for them. During that time period. When I found a GE washer under warranty doing what you are describing. GE would warranty the whole machine. They would have me destroy the machine after I would deliver the customer a band new one. GE knows they had a bad transmission and it cost them a lot of money. It was cheaper for them to replace the washer than have me repair it. The transmission list price was $298.00 back then. A word of advice, when you replace it. Buy a Whirlpool, Kenmore, Maytag. These brands hold up the best. I have the least service calls for Whirlpool and Kenmore. Both are made by the same people. Kenmore is made for Sears. Good Luck.

Agitator problem

Check to see if any thing is under the agitator. If not then maybe the bearings going out or other part of machine . Besure the cap is tighten so agatator don't come off. Check for ware on agatator top to the tighting nut.

Ginding noise during agitation

From the GE site.....

Front load washers and some compact model washers do not come with a shipping rod. According to the Installation Instructions for these machines there are 4 bolts, 4 yellow plastic spacers, and 4 metal "p" clamps that need to be saved and reinstalled before moving the washer to prevent any damage to the machine.
