My wife and I bought our current home 2 years ago, in part because of the amazing kitchen. The stainless steel and glass was a great combination. We needed a microwave to match, so we turned to Kitchen Aid for help and that may have turned out to be a mistake.
Our warranty has expired and I know that, but the rotating plate has stopped working and has rendered the microwave virtually useless and has become a danger to my family. A danger how, you might ask? The unit has great power when operating properly, however the faulty turn table causes the food to cook unevenly. Some portions of the food will be boiling and the other ice cold. The cooking temperature is varies throughout. Just last night, while heating up pasta, my son burned the skin from the top of his mouth as a result of the unevenness.
I always make a concentrated effort to thoroughly stir to prevent this, but the unit is unsafe and I would appreciate you replacing it or repairing it.
Again, I can appreciate the fact that the unit is out of the initial warranty period; however my wife and I had a reasonable expectation of the length of service we would receive due to the 500 price tag. The purchase was a decision we didn’t not take lightly. We’re long term people that make long term purchase decisions.
I have a $50.00 microwave from Wal-Mart that my employee’s have used for years that works fantastic. It just doesn’t seem that price equals quality anymore.
Sincerely,
Jason Juliano
If everything on the microwave works, except the turntable, this could be a simple turntable drive motor failure. It does happen from time to time. This motor gets a workout as it runs each and every time you use the oven. I just want to reassure you that these DO wear out and should not be an indication of the quality of the oven. I've had to replace them before. The motor costs about $34 at searspartsdirect.com. That is...if your model number is correct. You will need to go to the web site and type in your COMPLETE model number. There are several Kitchen-Aid models listed with the number you provided. I managed to scroll through several of the part listings and they all seem to be consistent with identfying the motor you need as item #11 under the "Oven Cavity" heading. The part number is W10159107. This is a fairly simple repair job. You shouldn't have to uninstall the oven if it is cabinet mounted. All have to do is unplug the power source and remove the panel covering the underside of the microwave. The plastic spindle just pulls off the motor shaft. Let me know if you need further assistance. I hope this helps you.
