Possible ccd issue.screen indicators for sure is ok, and viewfinder would show same black screen.this model is included in a recall by sony because of a defect in the ccd imaging sensor years back.but sad to say the program (and even the extension for it) is no longer available for all affected camcorder models. now it only includes the dsct1 and dscf717 dig cams.i.m sorry this unit would need replacement of the ccd imaging sensor.hope this info helps.thanks.

When in video recording mode LCD screen and viewfinder are black when the lens cap is off.

It could one of a few problems:

1. The viewfinder is pulled out and "PRIORITY" is set to "FINDER".

Push the viewfinder back in or set "PRIORITY" to "LCD".

2. The LCD monitor's brightness setting is too dark.

Adjust the brightness of the LCD monitor.

3. If the monitor is tilted upward 180 degrees, open the monitor fully.

The view finder is blac

I would guess your shutter is stuck closed, or the lens digitizer is faulty. Either problem will result in replacing your whole camera lens assembly. Sorry.

Dark view in view finder

Sounds like a lens diaphragm problem ( lens stays closed down to F16 and that is why you have a dark viewfinder ). Remove lens and see if you can activate the aperture mechanism via the activator which protrudes from the rear of the lens. You should get nice and brisk action from the aperture . If the movement is sluggish or the lens stays fully closed then your lens needs attention.
