The "lights went out" on our RSD30 front panel. We called the Dacor parts supplier and they said we needed a new oven control. We just got it (part no. 62692 -- has the display unit attached) and I started to install it but found that it is not obvious how to get inside to remove the old one and replace it with the new unit. It looks like I need to remove the top of the stove, but rather than undo the wrong screws (nuts) by trial and error I would like to get some advise. What (and where located) should I remove to reach the oven control unit. Once I get into the stove, the actual replacement of the old unit looks pretty straight forward. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Bob
This is one of the hardest stoves to get into. Turn off the breaker.
Pull off the burner knobs. This should reveal four large plastic nuts holding the console in place. You can turn them gently with channel locks straight on - not from the side. After you've got the console loose, everything else is downhill. There's lots of screws behind console, and across the bottom of the console (just above the door.) Remove just the ones you need, or face the wrath of Dacor!
Be careful about the rubber strip across the top of the console. It often stretches during a repair. You might have to cut off 1/4 to 1/2 in to get it to fit again.
The large plastic nuts are very east to get cross threaded when replacing them. I recommend turning them counterclockwise until you can feel the threads line up.
Good luck!
Sorry you have to go that route. I had to remove those brass rings once in a built in gas cooktop with a stainless surface. i was wishing I had one of those tools the're sending you. I finally did it with two flat screwdrivers and some penetrating oil (and a hammer tapping at some points.)
I didn't imagine you'd have to do that for the electronic oven control on the model pictured above. Good luck!
(BTW, what do you plan to do with that tool afterwards?)

Thanks bromikl, very helpful and I'll give it a try. I also called Dacor tech help and they said there is a special tool to take off the brass ring nuts under the burners and that this would give me some access to the panel from the top. I ordered the tool so I'll wait until I have that so I have plenty of access options. Thanks again!
The tool is part number 86007C and costs $14.78 which comes to $21.73 with tax and shipping. After this job I will keep the tool since it seems to be the key to the kingdom for getting into the stove. Hopefully I won't need it again, but it will be there just in case. I started to try the two screwdriver approach but the rings are on pretty tight and i didn't want to risk damaging them. Thanks again.
I have a similar problem. Nothing lights up on the display - the stove elements don't heat up - but the oven light comes on. Is this also the oven control?
Thanks,
Grant
