If you have no volume control on the main TV, unplug the TV and then turn it back on. The mute should be cancelled. If you have a volume control, turning it up should cancel the Mute function. It does on mine.
Good luck!

In my opinion, you can't go wrong with the Logitech 980186-0403 USB Desktop Microphone - 8-Foot Cord, Noise-Cancelling, Adjustable, Mute Switch, Weighted Base, PC/MAC There are no drivers to install or download. It also includes noise-cancellation technology for better voice recognition.
This item retails for $20 and you can only get better quality by buying a professional microphone for approximately $100. The Logitech will do the job unless are going into internet radio or TV.
1. Do you have power to the unit. I assume yes.
2. Ensure the fader and balance is set to neutral to ensure you have output going to all the speakers.
3. Ensure the speakers are connected.
4. Ensure the speakers are not out of phase, if they are they will cancel each other out, and sound muted
5. Always test new model head units with a cd. not fm radio. Using fm radio on some head units will mute the sound if the station is not coming in clear enough.
6. Set your volume up a little, like on 15 or 20 (using the digital 40 level radios) (halfway in plain language)
7. Ensure the mute isnt on
8. If running through and amplifer, ensure the power, ground, remote, gain and phase are all correct.
9. Ensure rca input is going into the correct place on the amp
10. Ensure speaker output is actually connected to speakers.
hope this helps
there is a short somewhere. check your speaker wire on the stereo to make sure none of them are shorted. also, check the speakers to make sure none of the speakers themselves are short (shorted voice coil). disconnect one speaker at-a-time to find the shorted speaker.
if the radio is constantly on mute then it could be the telephone mute wire on the radio harness. The mute function works when the mute wire is sent to ground so it could be that the cable insulation has rubbed off and now touching a ground (cars body etc)
Some radios have phone buttons that mute the speakers so you can talk on the phone. If you have Onstar and no active subscription it can also mute the radio thinking you are trying to talk to Onstar.
