You probably have the Hold on! (: It's the button on the side of the mp4 that says HOLD. If it's down, it's locked. Try pushing it up and turning on your mp4. If the lock still appears, try switching the button again down and up, that happens sometimes with my zipy too. Hope I helped in some way!
sounds to me like the firmware file has been corrupted, the included software for your player (MP3 utilities) should have a program called mp3 upgrade tool, which is used to load the firmware file to the player.
