LCD monitor does not show image you are focusing on....

Hi,
When my Rebel XT was new, as I was focusing on a field, I could see the image on the LCD monitor. But now I can only see the field of focus through my viewfinder. The manual says the what you are looking at should appear on the monitor. Is there something wrong with my camera?? After the shot is taken however, the saved image appears on the monitor. Pease help, have I set something wrong in the cameras settings?

The camera is a Single Lens Reflex. It is not possible to use the LCD as a viewfinder. Canon answers that question here: CanonUSA

The LCD monitor displays taken images but isn't operating as a viewfinder.

The XT does not have 'live view' - you can only use the LCD to view taken images

Canon rebel xt 1. image looks blury in eye

1. The viewfinder's diopter is probably out of focus (doesn't affect Auto Focus of photos). There's a dial and a +/- symbol next to the viewfinder. Turn the dial till you can see clearly through it. Alternative reason: The glass in the viewfinder is dirty/foggy. Use camera cleaning solution (a drop) on a cotton bud to clean it.

2. Malfunction needs Canon Service Centre to take a look at.

Why LCD monitor can not show image

Hi,

It might be that it accidently change the display time of the picture or turned it off. There is a setting that you can change to display pictures. Check if that might be the problem.

Cheers

Lcd monitor

On a DSLR (digital single lens reflex) like your Rebel, the shutter remains closed until you actually take a picture. The camera cannot display an image on the LCD since there is no way to preview one that has not been captured.

Can't get image in viewfinder

Your camera works just like a film camera SLR,. You use the eyepiece to frame and focus your picture. The LCD screen is for reviewing pictures taken or menu operations.

Canon 350d

No, the so called 'live view' ( seeing pictures in real time on your LCD monitor ) is available only on the latest models that are coming out now ( Canon D40 and Nikon D3 and D300 have this feature ).

LCD Monitor

no

when looking through the eye piece, press the shutter button half way down, you will see red focus points. Use those to align the image.

LCD monitor does not light up, and consequently, does not display any image (as some other digital cameras do) during the aiming and focusing processes - sort of prescanning the image - before the shutter...

to my knowledge digital slrs aren't supposed to show you the image on the screen before you shoot because the battery would get used up too quickly this is what the viewfinder is for and the lcd is purely there to tell you info on what the settings are and to view your pics after shooting, I have the 400d and its the same for that.Hope this helps
