Question about Canon Rebel XT / EOS 350D Digital Camera
I had this problem awhile ago - you must have accidently adjusted the focal area - it is sooooo easy to do without realising it. Here is what I was told:
**************************
Most likely, you have changed the AF point, which only takes effect in the creative modes (Manual, Av, Tv, P, etc)
There should be a button on your camera that has a grid like pattern above it, like
-
- - - - -
-
or
so. press that, look through the viewfinder, and move the shutter or
rear wheel, you should see the different AF points like up in red, and
as you turn different ones will light up, and eventually all of them.
also, you can look on the screen on top (or back, if its a rebel) and
it will show you which ones are selected while in that mode, instead of
looking through the viewfinder.

It is possible that your focus sensors are dirty. remove the lens to the body and try to clean the mirror, open the mirror and clean the small glass ( around 7 pcs). Clean all the mirrors inside. Also check if there is dent or misaligned mirror.
As an amateur photographer, I always set my focus sensor in the mid section only.

Thank you cyber sitter...my problem was the changed AF point. The lens wasn't focusing most of the time...now it's right on...thank you, thank you, thank you. I was starting to worry that I needed a new camera. Now I can continue upgrading lenses. :)

My Canon Rebel EOS XTI will auto focus but will take the picture. I have tried to take pictures in manual mode but still same results. Any suggestions?

My Canon EOS Rebel XT will not autofocus, when I turn the switch to manual focus it still will not focus clearly. I deleted all the settings in case i accidentally changed something, but i can't get it to focus clearly at all.
I have had my Canon Rebel for over a year now and have had my 75-300 mm lense for some times as well, and have always used the auto focus, and now all of a sudden it doesn't work. All it wants to do is focus in and out, but never to a clear focus, and will not allow me to snap a picture.
My Canon Digital Rebel won't autofocus any longer. None of the focus location red dots light up either. I've tried two different lenses (making sure they are in autofocus, not manual focus mode) and I get the same thing. First it adjusts focus all the way in one direction, then all the way in the other direction, then I get a green dot inside the lens and it won't take a picture. If I switch to manual focus I can focus fine and take pictures fine.
I've a very similar issue.
I was taking pictures when suddenly it no longer would do so. I finally switched to manual focus and it would again take pictures. Back on auto focus the lens (have tried 3) would focus in and out and then the focus conformation light would start blinking and no picture is possible. I've already tried setting the foucus points and it all was well with them. (I was using automatic settings in any case not manual.)
I've downloaded the manual with no luch and searched the web. I'm open to suggestions to get this working again as I was just made the staff photographer for the youth sports league here in town and fighting with manual focus will make getting the best shots far more difficult.
