If the MP3 Player came with a Disc you should install anything that hints to the words 'Driver'

Drivers are what the computer uses to talk between different pieces of hardware ei. Computer to MP3.

Also doin a windows update could help.

If neither of these are suffice you should google you irivers model and driver.
For instance my circumstance would be "iriver e10 driver windows xp"

I have no idea how to put music on my iRiver IFP-790 mp3 player

First, you should have MP3 music files on your computer. If not, download what you like or "rip" from a CD using Media player or similar application.

Then simply connect your MP3 player to a USB port on your computer. It is very likely that if you remove a cover on the player it will expose a USB connection. Plug it into your USB port on your computer. It will automatically be recognized by Windows and you can see the contents. Navigate to the music on your computer, click to copy it and then paste it onto your MP3 player. Voila, it will be there to play!

My iriver T30 says it's on 'hold' when the hold botton is off

I would reset the player first. As long as you are absolutely sure that the hold button is not engaged, then resetting the player ought to make the hold message disappear. If the reset fails, plug the iRiver into the computer to see if the computer will recognize the player. If it does, then go ahead and update the firmware on the player from iRiver's website - it will have the side effect of fixing your issue.

Vista will not recognize iRiver H10 MP3 player

Try plugging in usb with the H10 turned off. Now, press the select button (with the round symbol on it) while turning the H10 on. This starts the player in 'emergency mode' and should be recognized by XP

Windows xp drivers

Make sure you have the latest version of Windows Media Player. XP has all the right drivers but the iRiver needs to synchronise with Media Player inorder to transfer music onto the player using the sync function. Get Media Player 10 or higher then plug the iRiver into the computer.

Delete music H10 iriver

Sorry, but the built-in firmware only allows you to do that by plugging it into your computer as a removable device. Pull the battery of the player (or press the reset button), plug it into your computer, and press and hold the OK button as you turn it on. This will cause the computer to recognize it as an external drive, and you can therefore delete music from it by accessing it through My Computer.

Computer won't recognize

Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard
