Won't load audiobook because clock is not set

Hi. I'm trying to load an audiobook from Overdrive Media onto my Sansa Clip, and it gives me an error saying it can't load the data because my "clock is not set." I have set my clock on the device, and still get this message. Also, synching my files doesn't work because I don't want to download all my Windows Media Player info on the clip, just the audiobooks.

Had the same problem - used this solution from ehow.com at this web address: http://www.ehow.com/how_5180421_troubleshoot-sansa-clip-mp.html Worked and now I'm transferring my book from overdrive - hope it helps. Reset the Clip by holding the On/Off switch in the On position for approximately 20 seconds. Release the switch, then attach it to the USB adapter to charge it. This process can help when the Clip does not appear to be working at all.

Did you ever get this working? I'm seeing the same error when trying to transfer an audiobook checked out from the Dallas Public Library to my Samsung Galaxy Nexus phone.

I recently purchased a Sansa Clip MP3. I downloaded audiobooks to it but they will not play. What do I need to do?

Not true!!! The Sansa Clip is actually the best mp3 player I have found for listing to audiobooks. Here is what you need to do. Download the latest firmware update on the Sandisk website. You must do this or it just won't work unless you are downloading books from Audible.

I use the Overdrive Media Console and download mp3 and WMA books from my state library. When you hit transfer, be sure it hit advanced options. Browse until you select the audiobook folder on your player. Then transfer to that.

The player will bookmark your last place on anything that is in your audiobook folder. You can easily switch back and forth between your music and book without losing your place! Love it!

It even has a sleep timer on it. I'm in heaven.

I received the following message after downloading an audio book using Overdrive Media Console. Error message: "Please obtain license by transferring this title to device using audiobook...

Hi.
I report a solution from Portable player FAQ, let me know if it works:
1. Delete the title in the Overdrive Media Console program.
2. Then log into the Audiobook site at http://e.hbpl.org and click on My Account, My eItems Checked Out, and click the Download button the website to re-download the book.
3. Transfer the newly downloaded parts to your player.

Can't transfer data files

I was afraid of that. The file that you are trying to load has a DRM license on it that has a fixed-term license. It will play on your player for about a wekk or so, and then it is unusable except on the computer itself.

Most mp3 players that claim to support audiobooks don't really support most audiobooks - or don't play them correctly. Audiobooks that are in mp3 format (as in, NOT Overdrive) will give you the fewest problems.

Transfer error 0X8004C01A--Just started--What to do?

Some audiobook services have fixed-term licenses of 1-year - at the end of the time period, you have to resynchronize the audiobook files to the audiobook service itself.

Here is an interesting clip from the Sandisk forums on this exact issue:
"
Overdrive library books have DRM-encryption to make them stop working at the end of the loan-out period unless you renew them. This means your player must be set to MTP mode.

If your player intentionally or un-intentionally got switched to MSC mode, that would prevent the DRM content from being loaded onto your player and account for the error message.

Check it in SETTINGS > USB MODE on your player."

You need to tag the .mp3 so it has a genre of "Audiobook". Google "mp3 tagger" and you'll find utils to do this for you.

Audiobooks

Make sure that your music service subscription is up to date. Even if your subscription is up to date, some audiobooks/music files require you to pay extra to play the file on your Mp3 player -it's a dirty little game they play.

Can not play audible book

Go into the Music submenu, and then keep pressing the downward part of the wheel until the "Audiobooks" option comes up. If you don't have any audiobooks loaded, then it MIGHT be greyed out (then again, I have no audiobooks on my player and I still have the option). The manual has the correct instructions, it just doesn't include pictures.

Sansa Clip Audiobook Question

Once I downloaded the newest firmware the audiobooks folder started showing up in the windows file explorer. So now I don't have to worry about using media player or anything else. I just plug in my sansa clip, open windows file explorer and drag the folders (1 for each disk) onto my player (into the audiobooks folder).

Here's the link for the download. If it doesn't come up you might want to reformat your sansa clip.
