I do have the same problem. I continued to format the card over and over. I was able to snap one picture (which I could not retrieve) and got the message Writer error. When I tried again it said card not initialized and have not been able to resolve the error. I called the SanDisk technical support but unable to help me get rid of the problem

Are you using the 'M' or 'H' series 1 GB XD card?

I just fixed my Finepix A340 with the same problem (1gb card not initializing) - the fuji website has a place where you can update the firmware for the camera, mine was here http://www.fujifilm.com/products/digital/download/a340/fupd.html this page told me that my model needed the upgrade http://www.fujifilm.com/products/digital_cameras/accessories/card/index.html

hope this helps.

Card not initialized?

The error can be caused by:

1. The xD-Picture Card or internal memory is not formatted.

2. The xD-Picture Card contact area is soiled.

3. a camera fault

for 1.:

Format the xD-Picture Card or internal memory on the camera (p.130)
To format the internal memory or xD card goto format in the setup menu and chose the correct memory.

for 2.:

Wipe the contact area on the xD-Picture Card with a soft, dry cloth. It may be necessary to format the xD-Picture Card

Keeps saying card not initialized why ?

It just means that you need to format a new card in the camera before it will work properly. Go into the menu and find "format"...follow the on-screen instructions.

I have about 24 pictures on my XD card and I was trying to .rar them in one file on my PC but it was not working and so I ejected the XD card from the PC reader slot. When I put the XD card back in my...

You should try some photo recovery software to rescue the files on your XD card, here are some for your options.

Photo Recovery (for Windows)
Photo Recovery for Mac

Be careful: Before your pictures are recovered, do not attempt to save more files to the card in case the original files(your pictures) are overwritten.

Card no Initialized

If your new xD card has an "H" or an "M" before the 1gb, it is not compatible with your camera unless a firmware upgrade is performed (go to www.fujifilm.ca and follow the links for support to the firmware upgrade section). If the card doesn't have the H or M, you just need to format the card in the "set-up" menu of the camera.

Fuji A340

I had the same problem and downloaded a firmware upgrade from the Fuji web site and it now works in the camera.

Memory card won't work

Try this site for a firmware update. You need to get a AC power adapter for it to work though. It is from Fuji and it worked fine for my A120. The older XD cards are of a different format then the newer ones so if your new XD card has an 'M' on it you will need to do the firmware solution.
Good luck

Xd picture card

Greetings FredericoIV,

A common fix for this issue is to use an external card reader, and reformat your card using your computer. Make sure you chose FAT format instead of FAT32 or NTFS.

I hope this helps.
