If your new xD card has an "H" or an "M" before the 1gb, it is not compatible with your camera unless a firmware upgrade is performed (go to www.fujifilm.ca and follow the links for support to the firmware upgrade section). If the card doesn't have the H or M, you just need to format the card in the "set-up" menu of the camera.

Olympus cards don't always work in Fuji cameras. Maybe not at all in older Fuji's.
You could try and update the firm ware in your camera and see if that does anything (if it's available on the Fuji website) Go to the service and support section on the web site and you may be lucky
I just bought a sweet FUJI FinePix S5700...
I could not for the life of me understand why I was getting this message, and I was getting very upset !!!
I have a brand new Sandisk 2GB card, and it was driving me CRAZY.
My solution turned out to be a very simple one.
When your computer sees your card and you need to format it, it will give you TWO options. Either format using "FAT32", or just "FAT".
The FAT32 option gave me no results.
I tried again using simply "FAT", and it works just fine!
GOOD LUCK!
You will need to do a firmware update to be able to use your new 'M' XD card. Also you will need a AC adapter to be able to use the update for your camera.
It is a Fuji site and it works.
Good luck. http://www.fujifilm.ca/x3719.xml
1) use the format option to get the card ready for your camera.
2) If that fails, the camera may need to go to Fuji for a firmware upgrade (assuming your new card is type H or M card). I don't believe the upgrade is performable by the user.
I bought a new memory card for my finepix A330 camera When I turned on the camera after putting in the new card, the screen read "card not initialized" and won't take photos.my son is going holidays 13/9/08 could you help me please Alex Richardson
Format the card, unless it is an "H" or "M" type Xd card. The H & M type cards require the camera to have a firmware upgrade, which can be done from the internet by the user, or by Fuji
