Garmin says:

If your GPSMAP 60CSx will not acquire a satellite signal when outside with a clear view of the sky, please try the following:

  1. Click here http://garmin.com/products/webupdater/howtoinstall.jsp
  2. Follow the onscreen instructions to install and update your unit
  3. Once updated allow for the device to set free from obstructions for 20 minutes to acquire satellites
If this does not work then we suggest doing a master reset with your device - Note: A master reset will erase all waypoints or favorites and will restore your device to the default factory settings. To perform the master reset please do the following:

  1. Turn the device OFF
  2. Press and hold Quit + Menu + Out + Power
  3. The device screen will then flash and will power on
  4. Leave the device turned ON with a clear view of the sky without moving it for approximately 30 minutes so that it may acquire satellites

If still unable to acquire satellites, contact Garmin Customer Support via one of the methods below:

SOURCE: Tomtom not finding gps satellites

i had exactly the same problem, i dont really know how i solved it but first i thought it could be a memory problem slowing the gps signel so i reset the tom tom to factory settings then downloaded the updates from the tom tom home program of corce i lost all my destinations but i didnt want to do a back up just incase one of the updates had a virus or something so if u want to keep them i sugest u write them down first.and then i got a safty pin and pressed the reset button underneath where the memory card goes twice the second time i held it down for about 10 seconds then i looked for updates again from tom tom home. after that in tom tom home there is an option where u can operate your tom tom on your pc so i tryed that and i put in a destination on the pc and clicked on demo tour so i watched the route first it was a bit slow but started to speed up a little. after it had finished i un plugged the sat nav and went for a walk with it around the house soon as i went out side and set a destination it found 6 gps signels, make sure yhe battery is charged to at least half. well i hope anyone who follows my steps gets the same results, thought i lost 200 quid cos i have had it over two years and its only guarenteed for 12 months. well good luck.

Why doesn't the GPS pick up a current GPS signal?

You may need to do it outdoors; a building may interrupt enough satellite signal that it (the GPS) won't lock to it (the signal).

If it always says "GPS SIGNAL NOT DETECTED" when it's outdoors, I don't think you're going to get it to ever work. It may have been dropped & the internal antenna damaged.

Gps singal lost

Often, when your GPS is in a "covered" area ... e.g. inside a building, in a tunnel, under a bridge, amongst / under tall buildings, etc... when there is no open space (directly) between your GPS and the satellites, your GPS will loose its satellite signals. If you're in such locations, try to find some "open space" and wait a bit for the signals to be picked up again.
Another common reason why the GPS doesn't get signals, or doesn't get the signals quickly, is because the "latest" satellite positions (locations) have not been updated in your GPS. If/when you connect your GPS to your computer (e.g. using HOME ) and download the GPS satellite (QuickFix) location information, your GPS will have the most recent locations of the satellites in your vicinity/region. With this information, your GPS can pick up the signals more quickly ... instead of having to search/scan around to find the signals ... which can take a bit more time. While your GPS is searching for the satellite signals, it shows the "signal lost" or "no GPS signal" message.

How to regain my gps signal?

The problem can be fixed by resetting the tomtom one xl gps receiver. Tomtom one xl gps receiver is common with this problem, after resetting it, it is most likely it will happen again. So be ready to keep resetting over time.

It most like is as a result of bad strength to search and detect the satellite. So you have to adjust the antenna also to a area where it can pick signals easily. This is quite uneasy because the areas to locate the satellite varies in terms of the location you are.

Software update will not fix this problem as well as the quickgpsfix, so the bes solution is for you to keep resetting it.

Hope this info helped. Thank you for using fixya.

After I have loaded maps, the device does not detect satellite any longer.

If your gps does not detect satellite anymore. Then There is a problem and the solution is for you to either reset the gps, if that does not solve the problem, then another solution is for you to take the gps out of the car where it can make direct contact with the sun, leave it for about 3 to 5 minutes so it will detect the satellite. Then you take it back into the car, if it loses signal again, then you need to get an external antenna connected to it. If it does not support an external antenna, then you need to upgrade to the latest softwares version, that should do the job.
Hope this information helped.

It keeps saying waiiting for a valid GPS signal.

Your GPS transceiver(Transmitter/reciever) is not working. It is either obstructed by a metal plate or any part of your vehicle or the cone where the signal is detected is disconnected from the circuit board.Try relocating the unit to where there is no obstruction(any metal). If this does not work it needs servicing. The transceiver is usually located on the middle top side of the unit.It is the antenna where the GPS satellite signal is recieved.

My tomtom one gps can't get signal

When was the last time you updated the QuickFix of your TomTom? It helps your GPS to find the satellites.
Please, do the following:
1) Install "TomTom Home" software in your computer from www.tomtom.com
2) Start TomTom Home in your computer
3) Plug in the GPS dock to your computer's USB port and place the GPS on the dock. The green light on the bottom right of the GPS should turn ON to indicate that the GPS is getting power from the dock and charging
4) Start your GPS while being in the dock. If the GPS asks "do you want to connect to computer" answer "YES"
5) The TomTom Home software will detect the GPS and check if there are any updates for it. Then you'll be offered updates to install. Some are free, some are not. Be sure you choose to update "QuickFix".
Please, report back if you need further assistance

Can't get a GPS signal for last 24 hrs

I had a similar problem and did solve it with the soft reset (pressing reset button). I have a One XL and there is a small reset button that you push with a paper clip. On the XL 330 you press and hold the on/off button for 15 seconds and the unit should reset.

My symptoms: Would not find a GPS signal. When I looked at the GPS Satellite status (press on the GPS signal strength bars, again on the GPS/battery status) you can see it locking on up to 8 satellites but would still not show a gps signal lock. Normally it only takes 4 satellites to get a gps lock. My other sympton was that when I attached the GPS unit to the computer and operated it with TomTom Home, it worked fine and locked on to the gps signal quickly (even inside my home). But it would never (at least for 30 minute trips) lock on to a gps signal. After doing a reset it began working normally and locked on to a gps signal after finding 4 or more satellite signals.

Unit will not acquire the satellite signs

FYI ....My Roadmate 760 would not aquire a signal, I went to diagnostic screen and found it was detecting/tracking 0/0 satellites. Held the plugged in unit out the window and within 10 seconds was tracking 7 satellites! Turned out my 1999 Olds Silhouette Van has a anti-glare filter inside the factory windshield that blocks GPS signals. My wifes 2001 Chevy Impala also has same type filter. Check your windshield, filter is visible inside glass to within about three inches of edges of glass. Worth a look.
