Broken Battery Door

I need a new battery door as mine is broken.

The cheap Chinese plastic door simply cracks under the strain of holding the batteries in against the contact springs. When I contacted HP with a question about how to get parts, the only thing they seemed to care about was collecting information about me before they would deign to give me an answer. The best solution is the one I am adopting - never again buy any HP junk.

I need someone to repair my broken battery door. Where can I get it fixed?

  • willic899 Jul 04, 2008

camera works fine...cheaply made plastic door has a broken latch which locks it. HP response was to replace the $800 camera because this piece was not an orderable part..go figure that one of their customers may not have the inteligence to replace a peice of plastic because of "very intricate circuitry...not to pleased

I live in South Africa and have the exact same problem with the battery door. The camera fell and fortunately against my lounge suit, the battery cover opened caught the wood handle on the lounge and broke. there seem to be no one here even hp them self cannot help. now i am sitting with a camera that i cannot use. How long will it take for me to find some one else,s broken camera just to replace the door hp. you manufacture the camera you should be the on to have spare parts for this camera and all your hp products.

Unfortunately the HP 850 is no longer in production. If you really love the camera, not wanting to upgrade, then you may want to try online auctions. If you go to EBay or Creigslist you can get another one relatively cheep. Then mix and match the parts you need to fix yours or the one you acquired and keep the other for more spare parts. Or if you are in a big city, look for a used electronics dealer. They will have just about anything you would need to repair your camera or build your own out of parts.

The batteries keep popping out when I open the case.

Your battery door or surrounding casing is broken. It's a common problem with this model (especially for units with the side battery door). Unfortunately, your only options are to tape the door shut or get a new calculator. If only the door, and not the casing, is broken you can try to find just the battery door.

The little clip on the battery cover on my Nikon Coolpix 4300 has broken. I see I can buy a new one online, is it worth it?

Mine has broken as well. It appears this clip is just to keep the battery from falling out as you open the battery door. It will function perfectly fine without the clip. Just be careful not to drop the battery when you open the battery compartment.

Hope this helps,

Battery door latch broken

Unfortunately HP will not sell you a camera battery door. If you can find another camera that is broken with a good battery door you may have a chance.

To repair/transfer the new battery door, you will have to use a small jewerly store screw driver that you can buy at the dollar store and use it to push the door hinge bar to one side of the camera.

Then, pull the door hinge out but be careful not to lose the tiny spring that is installed in between the hinges. ( Make sure that you know and understand how to put it back the same way.) You can then pull the battery door from the camera.

Do the same thing to good camera. Practice on the broken camera first. The second time it should go easier for you. When you install the new battery door, push the hinge bar in all the way to one side of the camera. Hold the door to give you the proper alignment and then use the small screw driver to pry the hindge bar from the one side to make sure that it is equally in each of the black hinge connectors.

This worked for me. I was fortunate enough to find someone who had a broken HP MZ67 digital camera that had a "good" battery door. It took me about 30 minutes to complete the job. I hope this will help you. You can email me if you need more advice. I am a computer tech.

Battery Door Broken

So far, I was able to find a camera like mine on Ebay that was being sold cheap for parts only, because the LCD was broken. I figure that this amounts to probably what I'd be paying if Kodak offered to sell me a replacement battery door (which they do not). Kodak only considers the wrist strap a "user-serviceable item." Maybe so, but I intend to try to fix this myself. If anyone has done this successfully before, please write. Otherwise, will let you know how it goes.

Sony Cyber-Shot Battery Compartment Door Broken

I'm having the same problem with my DSC-W1 camera. I dropped my camera and the battery door latches broke.
I found a replacement door on Ebay for $9.95
I followed the instructions in the description and easily removed the broken door from my camera. Now i'm just waiting on the new door to arrive so I could slide the new door in.
I hope this was helpful.

Here's the seller I bought the door from. Hopefully the seller has more doors. =) :
