Sony Cyber-Shot Battery Compartment Door Broken

My husband dropped our Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W1 Camera and broke the latches on the camera compartment door. Now I have to tape it shut. Any way to fix this relatively cheaply, like under $50.

I have been checking on the internet and this seems to be a common problem with this camera. I would like to replace this door but I can't seem to get a replacement from another camera since they seem to be broken also which is why people have the camera up for sale. I love this camera very much and want to keep it. Any suggestions on how to source a new door for the battery compartment?

I also have SONY DSC-W1 camera and have same problem with door of battery compartment. Please let me know how to solve this problem.

I never dropped my camera but it seems the latch is so week and broke down.

Hi,

Read your problems, but I have the little clips on the battery holder terminal broken, so I need to replace the whole battery compartmet. Does anyone know how to do this and is it a easy job for me. I know what to pay Sony $120.00 for do the job when I can purchase the battery compartment for $33.42.

I'm having the same problem with my DSC-W1 camera. I dropped my camera and the battery door latches broke.
I found a replacement door on Ebay for $9.95
I followed the instructions in the description and easily removed the broken door from my camera. Now i'm just waiting on the new door to arrive so I could slide the new door in.
I hope this was helpful.

Broken battery compartment latches? A simple practical solution.
Load batteries. Close door. With 1/4" NC roundhead screw secure a small plate covering the battery compartment at the tripod mount.
With a bit more effort add a handle to secure the plate. This would create a more stable and easier to shoot camera less prone to fall from your grip.

Search ebay for Sony DSC-WI battery compartment or battery door.
The battery door supplier out of San Diego charges $39 +ship for battery compartment supplies directions. You will need to disassemble the whole camera to change compartment out and if you don't want to the vendor will do it for $55 extra. You will need to follow the guides by the suppliers on ebay to see if you compartment latches or your door latches are broken. If it is the door then it is a lot cheaper and easier-$7 +ship and 30 seconds to change.
I change the compartment and I am an amature but it took lots of patience.

The battery door latch is most likely damaged/broken. Try using a piece of duct tape to keep it closed. I've done this on several cameras with battery door latch issues & the doors stayed shut just fine.

the little clip(s) have broken. you can take it to a camera shop for repair or find the part and instructions online and do it yourself. mine has broken twice. i'm using a piece of tape.

I dropped my Sony DSC-W1/W12 camera. The battery door broke and will no longer close. The camera works fine with a little duct tape. Do they make a new battery cover to replace? Thank you all Marcia

Yes, you can get new battery holder that comes with cover, part number is as follows:
175648311.... HOLDER, BATTERY (WITH TERMINAL Silver)
DSC-W1 Camera will take apart to replace battery compartment.
