I have a whirlpool dishwasher that is leaking. What is the cause.

Replace door seals as this is what is causing the leak

You need to investigate this further to find the cause, there are some plastic tubes which screw in and can come loose causing it to leak.

check for water leaks in electronics housing or severe condensation in same area. Also check for leaks aound drain pump area.

Too much detergent can cause over-sudsing, which causes detergent suds and water to leak out of the door. Whirlpool recommends that you use between 0 and 6 grains per gallon for soft to medium water and between 7 and 12 grains per gallon for medium to hard water. Only use fresh detergent, as old detergent can also cause suds. Keep large pots and pans away from the dishwasher door. Water can bounce off of these items and exit through the seal. Always place dishes in the lower rack to prevent the spray arm from ejecting water right onto the door.

The door gaskets create a seal around your door, preventing water from escaping. If the gaskets are brittle or torn, you must replace them. Clean the gaskets if detergent or food particles are stuck to them. Level the cabinet if the dishwasher is unlevel, which can cause water to squeeze through the door. You can raise or lower the dishwasher feet. Tighten the door latch, if loose. Water temperature above 120 degrees Fahrenheit can also cause leaks. Test the water temperature by running the hot water faucet in your kitchen. Insert a waterproof thermometer into the water. Lower the temperature setting on your hot water heater if too warm.

There is no adjustment per say on this door or seal. If water spray directly on the door it can cause this, what I mean by that is if the spray arm, either the upper or lower is stuck and continually sprays in one place it can cause the water to leak by the door.

If the wrong type of detergent got in the dishwasher and there are suds or foam this could cause the dishwasher to leak a bit too.

If the dishwasher is not level or not mounted tight the door may not be hitting the seal right.

If all of these are not the problem I have heard of people putting a bit of silicone behind the gasket in the area it leaks, this will make the gasket a bit thicker to possibly help.

are there soap suds coming out of the door?

you may have water in the base due to a leak internally.if you tilt the dishwasher backwards and water runs out.thats the cause of the problem.on all the whirlpool full size dishwashers .access to the base is through two t25 torx screws securing the base plate.
