Check and test switch--brushes - bearings
The router motor has much in common with the humble vacuum cleaner motor - the first routers used those motors.
The series-wound brush-type AC motor is electrically very noisy and self-generates many spurious currents so these motors are perpetually trying to destroy themselves. It should never be a surprise when the internal insulation fails and the motor begins to run slow and sounds as though something is dragging.
These motors need a good supply of cooling air so it is important to keep the ventilation system clean. Without lots of cooling air a hard working motor will quickly overheat with the same result.
The most surprising thing about these motors is just how durable and long-lasting most of them are.
Your router will have to be dismantled and examined. Assuming the power is reaching it and the switch is good it is possible the speed control (if fitted) has failed or if you are really lucky a motor brush has stuck or worn out - that often sounds as though something is dragging.

It sounds like you bought a lemon possibly. I am thinking that the gears are bad. What you can do is remove the blade and unplug the saw. locate where the screws holding the bearing cover are and remove them to get to the gear and check it. Let me know if you need more help

there is a tubing connector between the collet and the motor, they hot glue these together. i just go to the auto parts store and get a new piece of tubing and glue it the same way.you will have to partially disassemble it to replace the coupling. if you disassemble it the collet just lays in the housing on the motor side cut the tubing to the right length. a slightly smaller size won't need the glue.
