The answer may have been helpful to some but it was wrong. Self-cleaning ovens ABSOLUTELY KILL birds !!!!! Any kind of non-stick coating used on anything that gives off heat can kill birds.

It is true that non-stick coatings which are heated up (teflon pans for instance) can and do kill birds. Do not use nonstick if you have birds. Birds are very sensitive to gases or off-gases and in years gone by, were actually kept in mines to alert miners of potential hazards via their death. Pretty sad. Makes you wonder what breathing that stuff does to us.

How do i operate the self cleaning function

Hello - Before using the self-cleaning cycle of the appliance, remove the broiler pan and any utensils stored in the appliance. Also remove any excess spillovers in the oven cavity. Allow the oven to cool before cleaning. During the self-cleaning cycle, the outside of the wall oven can become very hot to the touch.

Typically to set the controls for a self-clean the first step is to confirm that the clock shows the correct time of the day. Press CLEAN. "---" appears in the display. Press the UP ARROW or DOWN ARROW once. "3:00" appears in the display for a 3 hour cycle. To change to a 2 hour cycle press DOWN ARROW"2:00" appears in the display. As soon as the controls are set, the motor drive lock will begin to close automatically and the "LOCK" indicator light will flash. DO NOT open the oven door while the light is flashing (it takes about 15 seconds for the over door to lock). "CLn" will appear in the display during the Self-Clean cycle and the "LOCK" light will glow until the Self-Cleaning cycle is complete or cancelled and the oven temperature has cooled.

When the Self-Clean cycle has completed, the time of the day or "End" will appear in the display window and the "Clean" and "LOCK" light will continue to glow. Once the over has cooled down for about 1 HOUR and the "LOCK" light has gone out, the oven door can be opened. If "End" is the display and the Clean indicator light remains ON, press CLEAR/OFF. The time of the day will appear in the display.

If it becomes necessary to stop or interrupt a Self-Cleaning cycle, press CLEAR/OFF. Once the oven has cooled down for about 1 HOUR and the "LOCK" light has gone out, the oven door can be opened. Restart the Self-Clean cycle once all conditions have been corrected.

How do I get the door open after self cleaning and what do I push to self cleaning

Hi, Some ovens are self cleaning During the cleaning process, the oven heats up to a temperature of 900 degrees Fahrenheit. The extreme heat cooks off food and spills inside the oven, leaving ash that can easily be wiped out. The oven door locks while it is cleaning to prevent the door from being opened. Self cleaning ovens are better insulated than regular ovens to keep the extreme heat inside.

Instructions

Read the owner's manual that came with your oven before you perform self cleaning. Although all self cleaning ovens work basically the same way, there may be slight variations for some manufacturers and models.

Take out the oven racks. You need to clean the oven racks by hand, and then put them back in when the oven is done cleaning.

Wipe up any spills and messes inside the oven first, using warm water and a mild soap. Ovens smoke more during cleaning when there is food inside. Wash the inside of the oven door as well. Do not scrub the door gaskets, just gently wipe them off. Damaging the gaskets prevents the oven from sealing.

Lock your oven door manually if your model does not lock it automatically when you clean.

Open a window near the oven for ventilation. There is a certain amount of smoke when you clean the oven. The dirtier the oven is, the more smoke is created.

Turn the control on your oven to "clean" and set the timer for 2 to 5 hours depending on how dirty your oven is, and what the manufacturer recommends.

Wait for the cleaning to finish and the oven to cool before opening door. When oven is fully cooled wipe up any ash inside. If your oven is not completely clean, next time set the timer for longer. If your oven is spotless you might want to see if you can get away with a shorter cleaning time.

Tips & Warnings

Because self cleaning ovens are better insulated, they are more energy efficient when used for cooking. However, if you run the self cleaning feature on your oven more than once a month, you offset the savings you realized. With light to moderate use your oven should be able to be cleaned every one to three months.

Save on the electricity used with a self cleaning oven by cleaning the oven right after use at a high temperature. For example, if you set your oven to clean after making French fries at 450 degrees, it takes less energy to get the oven up to the required 900 degrees.

If you have pet birds, take them out of the house before cleaning your oven. Over heated cooking surfaces, oils and fats, can create fumes that are harmful for a bird's delicate respiratory system.

Hope it helped.

My oven door will not unlock after cleaning

It will take some time for it to unlock. The lock after self cleaning is controlled by temp. The temps during self cleaning are over 900 degrees and after self cleaning it will take several hours before the oven lock will release. Don't try to force. If after 3 hours it has not unlocked you can try disconnecting power for 2 minutes then reconnecting to activate the self cleaning motor assembly. Good luck and thanks for using Fixya

Can I clean a TruTemp oven with soap and water without ruining it?

    Hi,

    Yes you could clean it.

    Check few details :-

t the bottom of this post you will find the web address for your ranges manual and the self clean system is in side this manual.

    How to self clean

If your model has a door latch, never force the latch handle. Forcing the handle will damage the door lock mechanism.
The oven door must be closed and all controls set correctly for the cycle to work properly.
    Before a Clean Cycle
For the first self-clean cycle, we recommend
venting your kitchen with an open window
or using a ventilation fan or hood.
Remove any broiler pan, broiler grid, all
cookware, probe and any aluminum foil
from the oven—they cannot withstand the
    high cleaning temperatures.
    NOTE:
If your oven is equipped with nickel oven
shelves, remove them before you begin
    the self-clean cycle.

If your oven is equipped with gray
    porcelain-coated oven shelves, they may
be left in the oven during the self-clean
    cycle.
Soil on the front frame of the range and
outside the gasket on the door will need to
be cleaned by hand. Clean these areas with
hot water, soap-filled scouring pads or
cleansers such as Soft Scrub®. Rinse well
    with clean water and dry.
Do not clean the gasket. The fiberglass
material of the oven door gasket cannot
withstand abrasion. It is essential for the
gasket to remain intact. If you notice it
becoming worn or frayed, replace it.
Wipe up any heavy spillovers on the oven
    bottom.
Make sure the oven light bulb cover is in
place and the oven light is off.
IMPORTANT: The health of some birds
is extremely sensitive to the fumes given
off during the self-cleaning cycle of any
range. Move birds to another well ventilated
    room.

NOTE: Use caution when opening the upper
oven after the self-clean cycle has ended.
The oven may still be hot.

How to Set the Upper Oven for Cleaning
    On models with Gas/Control Lockout,
touch and hold the Gas/Control Lockout
pad for 3 seconds to turn it off.
NOTE: The surface burners must be turned
off prior to the self-clean start time.
If your model has a latch, latch the door.
    Touch the Self Clean pad.
Using the number pads, enter the
desired clean time, if a time other than
    4 hours is needed.
Clean cycle time is normally 4 hours. You can
change the clean time to any time between
3 hours and 5 hours, depending on how dirty
    your oven is.
    Touch the Start pad.
On models without a door latch, the door
locks automatically. The display will show
the clean time remaining. It will not be
possible to open the oven door until the
    temperature drops below the lock
    temperature and the LOCKED DOOR
    light goes off.
The oven shuts off automatically when the
    clean cycle is complete.
When the LOCKED DOOR light is off,
slide the latch handle to the left as far
as it will go and open the door. If your
range does not have a latch, the door
    will unlock automatically.
The words LOCK DOOR will flash and
the oven control will signal if you set
the clean cycle and forget to close the
oven door or forget to latch the door
    on models with a latch.
To stop a clean cycle, touch the Clear/Off
pad. When the LOCKED DOOR light goes
off, indicating the oven has cooled below
the locking temperature, unlatch the door
(on models with a latch) and open the door
The oven door must be closed and all controls set correctly for the cycle to work properly.

How to Delay the Start of Cleaning
Make sure the clock shows the correct time
    of day.
    On models with Gas/Control Lockout,
touch and hold the Gas/Control Lockout
pad for 3 seconds to turn it off.
NOTE: The surface burners must be turned
off prior to the self-clean start time.
If your model has a latch, latch
    the door.
    Touch the Self Clean pad.
Using the number pads, enter the
    desired clean time.
Touch the Delay Start pad. The earliest
start time you can set will appear in the
    display.
Using the number pads, enter the time
of day you want the clean cycle
    to start.
    Touch the Start pad.
On models without a door latch, the door
locks automatically. The display will show the
start time. It will not be possible to open the
oven door until the temperature drops below
the lock temperature and the LOCKED DOOR
    light goes off.
The oven shuts off automatically when the
    clean cycle is complete.
When the LOCKED DOOR light is off,
slide the latch handle to the left as far
as it will go and open the door. If your
range does not have a latch, the door
    will unlock automatically.
The words LOCK DOOR will flash and the
oven control will signal if you set the clean
cycle and forget to close the oven door or
forget to latch the door on models with
    a latch.
To stop a clean cycle, touch the Clear/Off
    pad
. When the LOCKED DOOR light goes
off, indicating the oven has cooled below
the locking temperature, unlatch the door
(on models with a latch) and open the door.

    After a Clean Cycle
You may notice some white ash in the oven.
Wipe it up with a damp cloth after the
    oven cools.
If white spots remain, remove them with a
soap-filled scouring pad and rinse thoroughly
with a vinegar and water mixture.
These deposits are usually a salt residue
that cannot be removed by the clean cycle.
If the oven is not clean after one clean cycle,
    repeat the cycle.
You cannot set the oven for cooking until
the oven is cool enough for the door to
    unlock.
While the oven is self-cleaning, you can
touch the Clock pad to display the time
of day. To return to the clean countdown,
    touch the Cooking Time pad.
If the shelves become hard to slide, apply a
small amount of vegetable oil or cooking oil
to a paper towel and wipe the edges of the
oven shelves with the paper towel.

    Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

How to use self cleaning oven

    • When using the self-cleaning feature on your oven, the temperature within the oven rises to an extremely high temperature, usually around1000 degrees. The oven will remain at this temperature for a set periodof time, often from 1 to 3 hours.

    • Self-cleaning ovens differ from traditional ovens in that they require a timer to control the amount oftime that the self-cleaning feature operates. They also require extrathermostatic controls to control the extremely high temperatures.

    • While the mechanisms inside aself-cleaning oven are quite complex, the concept behind aself-cleaning oven is fairly straight forward. The extremely hightemperatures incinerate dirt and debris from your oven, thus cleaningit for future use.

    • Safety is very important when using yourself-cleaning feature. You must ensure that the oven door is completelyclosed while the self-cleaning cycle is running. 1000 degreetemperatures are obviously extremely dangerous. Self-cleaning ovenswill come equipped with a secure oven door latch for this reason.

    • The crucial door locking system isinitially engaged to signal that you are ready to use the self-cleaningfeature. When the oven reaches a certain temperature, the door locksystem will ensure that the oven door cannot be opened until the cycleis complete and the temperature has returned to a manageable level. The result is a clean oven without the use of harsh oven cleaners orabrasives.
