Older kenmore refrigerator model 106 67292790. unable to remove the front grill to clean. have no manual to help me

That is possibly a filtering material rather than insulation and is to help stop dust and fluff reaching the coils. If it definitely insulation like fibre glass, it should not be covering the front grill, so it may have just dropped down. I would definitely remove it as the fan draws cool air over the coils and over the compressor. Keeping it cool is the key to an efficient system. Set a reminder to clean the coil in a years time though as they are best done every year.

The grille allows air to be pulled from the kitchen into the lower compartment of the appliance by the condenser fan, which cools the refrigerator's compressor. At times this grille must be removed, such as when you are cleaning the compressor, emptying and cleaning the drain pan or adjusting the refrigerator's leveling legs to level the appliance. The grille is designed for easy removal: It is secured in place using only two screws

1 Open the refrigerator doors to at least 90 degrees.

2 Remove the two Phillips screws securing the grille to the cabinet. They are at the top portion of the front of the grille.

3 Pull the grille away from the front of the cabinet to remove it.

you dont new unit are sealed, some have a filter in front at the bottom vent.

Refgriderators loose some of there cooling capacity if the condensor coils are not kept clean .To clean the coils pull out the fridge, remove the front and back bottom grill and vacoom or blow all the lint off the grills.If blowing out ,it can get messy.I usually put the vacuum in the back,cover the rest of the opening with a towel and use air to blow from the front.Hope this helps if so please give us a 4 thumbs up. need complete model # to give correct help but most kenmore sxs ref / the defrost timer is located in the control panel . two screws to remove an un plug it .. reverse to install .. some older models are locaded behind the toe grill . same two screws.. mm

hold the grill at both ends and pull to you becareful some model are diffrent

Behind the removable toe plate at the bottom front there is a wire grill condenser. Using you vacuum cleaner and crevasse tool clean it out as best you can. Sometimes it helps to blow out this area with compressed air.

Next look for frost on the back wall of the freezer section. If there is frost you have a defrost system problem. Let me know what you find.

If you do not find the filter located in the front grill/toe plate below your freezer door or if you do not find it hanging in the top of the refrigerator section then you do not have a filter on your model. You may add an inline filter between the water supply valve of your house and the water connection on the back of your refrigerator. Since you posted it is an older model I bet you do not have a built in filter.
