My freezer just started buzzing tonight

GE top freezer, model # GTH18JBRVRWW, about a year old. Just tonight freezer started buzzing, isn't stopping. I moved stuff around, tried lowering the adjustment (it's on 5), still buzzing. It's been really hot and humid, and we've been opening it a lot today, I've also noticed lately that it's getting kind of frosty in there. What gives and how can we fix it? It's practically new, I don't want to have to get a repair person in. Aug!!

You might have a defrost problem. Frost free models have a heating element that is controlled by a timer to automatically defrost ice, ie defrost timer turns on defrost heating element every 12 hours to melt ice in freezer and allow good air flow.
You can test defrost element with an ohm meter(located inside freezer coils-will have two wires going to a plug connection), if OK replace defrost timer (located in various places depending on make and model

GE Artica PSS25MGMB Stopped cooling/freezing, everything else works, lights, fans, just no cold and no compressor start sounds?

I would suspect the start relay and capacitor! With the clicks and buzzes, that is the most likely fault. Although you could replace one or the other of them, I always replace as a mated pair, because it seems that when one of them fails, the other one will fail shortly after. Items 733 and 734 on the following schematic (which also gives you an idea of what they look like and where they are located)

My GE TBX22Z runs about 22 hr/day. I have coolness controls set in middle. Freezer is 15 below and fridge is 38-39 degrees. The unit is 23 years old. Should I get a new model?

Hi,

Many times a freezer and/or refrigeratordo not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...there are also many otherthings that can go wrong. If you are hearing a clicking or buzzing thencheck out the last two tips.

If your refrigerator is running but warm, then...

Check out these tips that I wrote about that... it is a great place to starttrouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then callinga repair person to do a simple thing for you...

Loud buzzing sound. warm fridge and freezer

Could not find info for the model listed could it be PFS22SBASS...any way the most common reason for your issue is the main motherboard part #WR55X10942
prices vary $180 - $200. The circuit that operates the compressor is most likely at fault. Most boards are located at rear of unit lower right, it controls all refer functions. Not hard to instal,l but due to the cost most electrical parts bought are not returnable.

Clicking, buzzing, compressor too hot, thawed out

Sounds like the compressor is in thermal overload. Let it cool down completely and meter the starting amperage on start to run. The compressor could be seized or it's windings could be shorted to ground (checking the resistance between the windings terminals on the compressor while unplugged will determine this.).

GE Top Freezer Fridge - Freezer Buzzing

If you remove the half moon cap, and two 1/4" screws you can remove the cover and get to the fan. The fan motor shaft is mostly wobbling around making the buzzing sound.

GE Side by Side Ref

Sounds like an internal mounting spring for the compressor. Only solution is replacing the compressor. However the compressor can run in this condition for years. Replacement compressors only have a one year warranty. A new refrigerator comes with a five year warranty.

The Top Freezer Is making a Loud buzzing Noies!

Hello psimmons304,
Yes it does sound like a issue for the fan. What i would do is look up the model on google and type in replacement fan. you should be able to find it that way.  If this doesn't answer your problem please post again.
Please post what you do and how you did it. I look forward to your posts.
