Sony video cam wont play

I purchased a Sony CCD-TRV65 to play old (10-15 years) 8mm and HI-8 tapes so I can convert them to DVD. During playback, I see only a gray static screen with no sound. What could the problem be?

Unless stored in optimum conditions, magnetic tapes degrade over time.

I have recorded the videos in my Hi 8 Cassettes sony handy cam CCD-TRV418E. I want to copy the files to my PC and burn the CD's. My cam recorded doesn't have USB port. Please help me how to go about...

You will reqquire an A/D (analogue to digital) Converter to go between the camera and PC.
Connect the camera to the Converter with analogue cables and the Converter to the PC with a firewire cable.

Sony has a recall on some of these ccd imager problems. Contact Sony to see if your model applies, but it sounds like an imager problem on your pal format camcorder. Larry

Sony ccd trv218e, recording & playing back does'nt work

I had that problem also and I found that using smaller tapes helped. I was using the 120 minute tapes, I think they may be too heavy.

By closing the casing with a little force,my camera is working again,many thanks,i'm most impressed with the information provided by FixYa.
