This is a fault in the loading section and so unless the camcorder is pulled out it is not possible to get a clear look into the circuits and mechanism.
It needs to be checked if there is voltage on the loading section from the loading IC and also if the motor loading mechanism is in order. Sometimes the gears, belt or pulley can be faulty.
If not the loading driver IC can be faulty . finally check on the eject microswitch.
Attempt only if you are equipped.

You will need an Analogue to Digital Converter box to get the signal to a computer.
Use the RCA video and audio connectors (yellow, red, white) to go from camera to A/D Converter and then a firewire cable from the A/D Converter to the computer assuming the computer has a firewire port.
Firewire is also caleed IEEE1394 or iLink.

your sony ccd-trv 108 will transfer videos(stream) to a computer using firewire connection. install the supplied software or use any program compatible for streaming like windows movie maker. use a firewire cable. check your computer for a firewire port(port with IEEE symbol) make sure that the tape is totally rewounded then press the record button on windows movie maker as the same time as you play the video from the camcorder. (its basically playing the entire video in order for windows movie maker to record it.

The error code C31:23 denotes that the problem is in mechanism(which is misaligned) of loading section and it need mechanical adjustment by an expert. Contact any expert nearby and pay labor charges because no part is required to resolve this issue.

This can be caused by several problems including the transmission gear in the tape mechanism not engaging properly or a defective clutch in the take-up spool and can usually be repaired fairly inexpensively. I can't record anything. There is a gray screen

Do you get correct picture in playback of old recorded tapes?
Is it Sony CCD-TRV108 camcorder or any other model?

I have a sony handycam ccd-trv108 ntsc and the
O heck my camera too went like this, it turned out to be the lamp in the camera that lights up both camera screens, everything looked really dark with out that like, and wow not cheap mend for me, as they charge a bit for the bulb about £4 in UK, but the man who does the job must be paid around £60 per hour, and that hurt, now do you need a box of hankies as I still got couple left.

I had one of these before I bought my new Hi 8 digital camera, I would be keen to ask what problem have you got that needs this job doing? I know that the small black screws on the top and back allow the outer case to be removed, but you will find that most of the things that go wrong are more electric items rather than mec side of things, so most type of problems the man in the street could not repair anyway.
