Power down your computer, plug in original mouse, boot up. After computer boots, unplug original, and plug in your current mouse. If this does not help, call geek squad!

Don't throw the batteries away without testing them.. If they are good reinsert them and check if the problem is resolved. I no longer bother with the battery check, poor mouse response happens when the battery is low. I just pop out one battery and reinsert it. It never takes more than twice to make it behave :)
The time pointer is supposed to be stationary. On T104 timer the pointer is stationary pointed downward at 6:00 position. So you can move it so it is pointed straight down and add a bit of super glue where pointer meets stem. Moving stationary pointer will not affect on-off operation of timer. The pointer is just reference for setting current time. Worn trippers can cause problem. Trippers are softer metal and designed to wear down so timer mechanism lasts for decades.
You can adjust your pointer's moving speed by going on control panel from My computer. Click on mouse option. Drag the cursor as high as you want your mouse pointer's speed. Save the changes.
