If this router is brand new and has not yet been configured, try using "admin" (without the quotes) for the username, and leave the password field blank. Press the "OK" button; you should be directed to a welcome screen. From there, click "Run Wizard" and you should be taken to a screen prompting you to create a new password for the router.

The modem has likely assigned it's IP address to the MAC address of the PC.
We need it to assign an IP address to the WAN port MAC address of the router!
When you hook up the router, the modem is no longer sending data to the correct MAC address.
Unplug the power to both the modem and the router.
Power up the router FIRST, and wait for it to complete it's initialization.
Once the lights have settled down on the router, power up the modem.
Wait for it to fully initialize.
NOW turn on your PC or laptop, and everything should be working just fine.
If not, post a reply or add a comment to this post, and I will try to further assist you.

Trying to acces dynex router

The Manual:
http://dynexproducts.com/cms/documents/DX-E401%20User%20Guide.pdf

The default address of the router is 192.168.0.1. Type that address into a web browser on a computer connected to the network and it should bring up the login screen for the router. The default login for the router is Username: admin with a blank password. If you changed this, you will need to reset the router with the reset button and configure your entire network again to make changes.

Can't get to 192.168.2.1 anymore. why?

You need to find the reset button and press it with a needle head, untill all setting are reset. Power cicle your router and if you are using a modem. Try again. You shouldn't have any orange lights on your router. Now go to your computer, and you will find your wireless rounter name, try to connect to it, and it will ask you for your pin number. You can find the pin in the bottom of the router. After typing the router's pin, it will ask you for the security settings and stuff. Once done, you should be good to go.

Thanks,

Wais

How do i change

If you don't have the current password, you will have to press the reset button located next to the power connector port. This will reset it back to factory default settings. The you can access it with your browser:

To access the Web-based management utility:

1 Open your Web browser and enter the IP address of the router into the
Location (for Netscape) or Address (for Internet Explorer) field, then press
Enter. The default IP address of the router is 192.168.0.1

For example, type 192.168.0.1

After the connection is established, the logon screen opens.

2 To log in as an administrator, enter the user name of admin and leave the
password field blank (default), then click OK. The Web management Home

Hello, For the past two years, my friend and I

It sounds to me like you have the possible router troubles well in hand. Good job on that!

This is a long shot - in the dark ... have you checked your cat five ethernet connections? I think you have a failed or failing cable. You could have the cables tested or you could simply purchase a new cable. Any computer repair shop should have the test equipment for this - or you could get your own equipment. If you are in North America, you can find this equipment for sale at Best Buy, Home Depot, Lowes, Radio Shack or other fine retail outlet catering to the do it your selfer. Expect to pay up to $75.00 for the device. You might also want to check the RJ-45 in the X-Box. (There are at least 2 kinds of cables - 'straight' and 'cross-over'. I believe you should be using straight cables)

TCP-IP means Transmission Control Protocol - Internet Protocol. The way it works is TCP-IP transmits a packet (of information) out to the cloud - if a proper return is received, TCP-IP sends the next packet. This happens over and over. If one packet is lost - TCP-IP sends that packet over again., and continues until a proper return is received. At the other end, when the packets emerge from the cloud, they are reassembled into the original message. A dirty or faulty contact can allow crashes of packets causing TCP-IP to transmit the packets again. When a lot of retransmitting of packets happens, that results in a sluggish connection.

I don't know this is your trouble ... I do hope you get your system working again. Best of luck to you and thanks for your question today. Other experts may have additional ideas for you to try.

Thanks again for visiting today.

Can't find the instructions to hook up second

Assuming that the router has one 'WAN' (or 'Internet') port, and more than one 'LAN' (or 'Network') port, just connect an Ethernet cable from the 2nd LAN port to the network-port on the second computer.

Both the router and the second computer should auto-configure themselves, giving you an Internet connection, without any fuss.

You don't need a software to connect a router to your computer. All you have to do is to plug the ethernet cable at the back of the router to the computer. If you need to access the internet connection through your router. Please note, if you have cable internet connection, you can copy/clone the MAC to your router. If you have DSL that requires user name and password, you can choose PPPoE, enter the user name and password and apply the changes.
