Duct tape is plastic coated, try masking tape as that is paper. Also the adhesive from the tape may bleed through hindering drying!

SOURCE: Kelvinator Chest Freezer will not cool after spray painting rust spot.

Dear Landport2
Welcome to the site,

You said, you have a Kelvinator chest freezer, model number CFS101SM1W. This freezer is in excellent condition and was working ok. I notice that there was a rust spot on the bottom area so I decided to spray paint the entire inside with the appropriate appliance spray paint. After spray painting the freezer will not cool.

How old was your freezer?
This must be an ancient freezer!

And Unfortunately I was not able to tell you to leave it alone and not to turn it off!
You did not cause this!
Unfortunately it was so old that it probably was already on it's last legs.

Here is an interesting report I just read!

Repair or replace your appliances?

When to pull the plug on your old freezer

It nearly always makes sense to undertake simple do-it-yourself repairs,
such as replacing a gasket on a refrigerator or a freezer.

Typically, you'll also find a troubleshooting section for more-serious problems
in the owner's manual.

Should you pay for a repair or buy a new model ?
The answer depends mostly on the age of your ,freezer
how much you bought it for,and the cost of the repair.

Follow these guidelines:

When a repair makes sense.

If your refrigerator is under warranty or less than four years old freezers),
paying for a repair makes sense.
Note that freezer under warranty might require service from a factory-authorized technician;
readers have found them on a par with independent repairers.

When a repair might be a wise choice.

If your freezer is out of warranty and is four to seven years old,
it might make sense to pay for a repair. Customers generally pay $100 to $200 for a repair.
But you might want to buy a new model even at this stage,
given that today's models are quieter and have added features.
Higher energy efficiency is another plus: Energy Star-qualified models made after April 28, 2008,
are 43 percent more efficient than conventional models built before 2001 and 56 percent
more efficient than those built before 1993.

When it pays to replace.

The repair costs more than half the price of a comparable new freezer.
Data also shows that it doesn't pay to fix a less-expensive freezer
six or more years old .

Thanks to better recycling programs, less than 10 percent
of a freezer you replace is likely to end up in a landfill.

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to help!

Thank You, HUUUM

SOURCE: Spraying troubles

Off hand I would say that you have the wrong spray tip for the paint that you are spraying or that the tip is worn. Another thing that it could be is the little piece of rubber behind the tip is worn or missing. My first suggestion is check the tip size with the recomendations of the paint that you are spraying (You will find this on any specification sheet from the paint manufacturer.. If the size is correct replace the tip. A new gasket comes with a new tip. Hope this helps.

How to spray paint my atv

To spray paint your ATV frame matte black, you will need the following materials:
  • Matt black spray paint specifically designed for use on metal surfaces
  • A clean, well-ventilated workspace
  • Masking tape and newspaper or plastic sheeting to cover any parts of the ATV you do not want to paint
  • Primer specifically designed for use on metal surfaces
  • A paint respirator to protect your lungs from inhaling fumes
  • A spray gun or spray can
  • Sandpaper or a wire brush to prepare the surface of the frame
Before you begin, it's important to properly prepare the surface of the frame by cleaning it thoroughly and removing any rust or old paint. Use sandpaper or a wire brush to remove any loose paint or rust. Once the frame is clean and dry, apply a coat of primer specifically designed for metal surfaces. This will help the paint adhere better and ensure a smooth finish.
Allow the primer to dry completely before applying the first coat of matte black spray paint. Hold the spray gun or can about 8-10 inches away from the surface and apply the paint in thin, even coats. Allow each coat to dry completely before applying the next. Once the final coat is dry, you can remove the masking tape and newspaper or plastic sheeting and reassemble the ATV.

Painting patterns using stencils

Painting a pattern on your wall can be very difficult if you want all the shapes to be the same size and level. But just like when you were little and had letter or shape stencils to help you draw perfect drawings, you can make stencils yourself for what ever it is that you want to paint on the wall.

Using a sheet of cardboard or a contact sheet draw and cut out the shape that you want to paint. If you want to make a pattern that goes all the way around the room then you should make two or three stencils so you can level them.

To use the stencils first prepare the wall you want to paint, you want to paint the base color before you use the stencil because painting around your design can be very challenging. When the wall is dry take your stencil and using painters tape, tape the stencil to the wall so it doesn't move. Making sure that you don't over load the paintbrush paint inside the stencil trying to be careful around the edges. When you finish filling the stencil carefully lift it off, make sure that there isn't any paint on the underside of the stencil because if there is and its wet it will leave unwanted marks on the wall.

Repeat the process of taping, painting and lifting until you have finished painting your pattern on the wall. When you are finished step back and enjoy your handiwork.

I have an old white refrigerator that works fine, just looks awful. What can I do to the face to make it look nice. I have wooden oak kitchen cabinets and a tile floor.

Paint it with white enamel.
Enamel Paint finishes in high gloss if you want that sort of finish.
Always paint in a dust free invironment with plenty of ventiallation.
With the expensive cost of many home appliances, sometimes replacing an old refrigerator is out of the question, especially if it still works well.
This can be a problem if you've recently painted your kitchen or if you're just sick of looking at an old, outdated fridge.
Instead of learning to live with your boring or unattractive refrigerator, you can give it a bright new look with a few coats of paint.
Mix a few tablespoons of vinegar into a bucket of warm soapy water.
Use this mixture to clean the refrigerator.
Scrub away any grease, dirt or other grime with your soapy water and a stiff bristled scrub brush. Wipe the refrigerator dry with a towel when it is clean.

Use painter's tape to cover parts of the refrigerator you do not want to paint such as the handle or the grate at the bottom of the refrigerator.

Apply a coat of appliance paint to your refrigerator with a paint roller to prime the surface.
You can also purchase appliance paint in a spray can and use it to spray paint your refrigerator.

Sand the paint with an extra fine grit sanding sponge when it is completely dry.
Try to make the surface as smooth as possible and then wipe away any dust created with a clean towel.

Paint the refrigerator with an enamel paint tinted to the desired color and a paint roller.
You can use oil-based or latex-based enamel depending on your preferences.
Oil paints usually have a stronger odor than latex paints but they may last longer.

Apply a second coat of paint when the first coat is completely dry.

Sand the final coat of paint when it is dry with a wet extra fine sanding sponge.
Spray the refrigerator with water while you work to keep it damp and keep sanding until the paint is smooth and shiny.

Remove all of the painter's tape from your painted refrigerator.

What's your problem? Our bird cage finish is chipping. Can I paint it myself?

My recommendation is to call the manufacturer for paint recommendations and, believe it or not, some cage manufacturers will do that for you. In any event, you must make sure the paint is nontoxic since most birds do scratch it with their beak. After painting Make sure you let it dry completely: Permit the paint to dry for at least 48 hours before moving your bird into the cage, so be prepared to have a secondary cage on hand. Also you should know that although paint may be nontoxic when dry, there are paints may be harmful to your bird if inhaled, so paint it as far as you can from your birds, outdoor area preferred.

How to waterproof cardboard boxes

Paint or spray the cardboard with a waterproof coating
  • Spray the cardboard with an automotive primer and then let it dry. You can also use a variety of waterproof varnishes to provide this initial waterproof coating for your cardboard. Since you will be painting the cardboard with another layer of protective covering, make sure the substance you use for this initial layer can be painted over.
Next, paint the cardboard with an outdoor latex paint similar to what you would use on the outside of your house. Having these two layers of waterproof sealant--a primer and a latex--should keep your cardboard stiff and dry for quite a while.

Hi I have the Gas Patio Caddie. The coating that is in the inside of the cover is bubbling up and starting to peal off. Can that be resprayed with something or do I need a new cover? If so where can I...

It can be repainted, using spray on, High Heat Grill Paint. Which, you can find at any home center or hardware store, in the paint department. Krylon makes one, as does Duron. I personally like Krylon, as it seems to cover better.

You will need to thoroughly clean the surface of any grease, rust, loose paint, etc. Then wipe the the area to be painted with denatured alcohol and then wipe off any remaining residue before spray painting it. Several light coats is much. much better than two heavy coats. Allow each coat to thoroughly dry, before applying the next coat.

Do not use the grill for 48 hours, after the final coat of paint has been applied.

Hope this helped you and Happy Grilling!!

How do i restore the surface of my outdoor ping pong table

Hi there,

Use painters tape to cover the white lines of your table tennis table.

Use sandpaper (150grit) to smooth the surface. This will level any bumps or scratches. Fill deep cracks with wood filler, let it dry and sand the table again.
Make sure that the table is clean before you begin the painting procedure.

Use chalkboard spray paint about 8 inches away from the table and spray each side. Allow 8 hours for the paint to dry then repeat with another coat. Next day, repeat the process so you have 3 layers of paint. Chalkboard spray paint helps the ball bounce to the correct height and speed.

Remove the painters tape after the last coat and allow the table to dry for at least 24 hours.
Hope this helps, vote me if so :)

I want to know how to camouflage a jeep the best

Knowing how to paint a Jeep in camo patterns means you can hide your Jeep in the woods, marshy areas or in open fields without it being easily seen. Using Mossy Oak's Shadow Grass pattern, paint your Jeep with natural-looking shadows and grass blades. The 3-D look of this pattern allows you to easily hide your Jeep from water fowl, doves, deer and big game.

Things You'll Need:
  • Sandpaper (120 and 800 grit)
  • Wax and grease remover
  • Lint-free towel
  • Camo stencil
  • Masking tape
  • Masking paper
  • Respirator mask
  • Automotive primer
  • Automotive paint (black, gray, light tan and brown)
  • Automotive clear coat
  1. Sand the surface of the Jeep with 120-grit sandpaper until the surface is dull. You can use a dual-action sander for this step to speed the process. This removes the top clear coat and prepares the surface for primer. Primer won't stick to a shiny surface.
  2. Mask off areas of the Jeep that won't be painted, such as the windows, tires and passenger area of the Jeep. Wipe the surface with wax and grease remover and a lint-free towel.
  3. Spray primer on the Jeep in three thin coats. Allow each coat to dry completely. Once the primer is dry, use 800-grit sandpaper to sand the top layer of primer until smooth. This leaves a smooth surface for the paint. Wipe again with wax and grease remover and a lint-free towel.
  4. Paint a thin base coat of gray on the Jeep. Cover all of the primered areas on the Jeep so that no primer can be seen. Allow the paint to dry.
  5. Go over the Jeep with brown paint, spraying small areas of brown paint in no particular pattern. The finished effect should look like the Jeep is equally painted gray and tan. Hold the first stencil against the Jeep and use black paint to fill it in. Move the stencil over and paint again. Start at the front of the Jeep and work towards the rear.
  6. Move on to the next stencil and use light tan paint to spray the grass pattern. The grass should start at the bottom of the Jeep and reach up towards the top. For longer grass, don't spray the tops of the grass but instead move the pattern up, spray the stems longer and then spray the tops, making the grass stems long. Repeat this around the Jeep and across the hood. Go back over the grass stems with black paint, lightly spraying a few of the stems to give them a shadow look.
  7. Finish by spraying three coats of clear coat paint onto the painted areas of the Jeep. This protects the paint from UV rays and keep the camo pattern looking good.

Tips & Warnings
  • Paint is best applied using a paint spray gun and air compressor, but canned spray paint will work.
  • Never sand or spray primer or paint without using a painter's respirator mask.
