The below was copyed from an earlier post of mine. Over a period of time your info can get corrupt from transering music back and forth. To format plug it in to usb. Go to my computer It shows up as a removably disc, usually drive f: Right click on drive f: (or the approriate drive) and click format. Let me know what happens, you will have reload the player, also try bypassing the software you are using to tranfer, by opening up drive f: and clicking and dragging your music into it , or you can copy and paste it into drive f: L8R

How to Convert NTFS External Hard Drive to FAT32?

My friend Michael bought an external hard drive last month, yesterday he ran to me and ask how to convert external hard drive from NTFS to FAT32 safely and easily? I was so curious about why does he want to convert NTFS to FAT32; he said NTFS partition can't be read by DOS system. Since protecting data and files, I recommend him to convert external hard drive from NTFS to FAT32 with a third-party software-AOMEI Partition Assistant, which can convert hard drive from NTFS to FAT32 without data loss.

To computer users, NTFS and FAT32 are not strange. But seldom of them can tell what the difference between them. NTFS and FAT32 to partition are what DOC and TXT to text. In text, the file with DOC format can't be read by TXT application. Similarly, in some condition, not all files in different formatted partition can be read by same application. First, you'd better know some knowledge about NTFS and FAT32.

A Brief introduction of NTFS and FAT32

About FAT32

FAT 32 is one of partition format in windows system. It has 32bit file table, which strengthen FAT32's management to partition, and break through the limitation of 2GB space in every partition. Since the production cost of hard drive decreasing, the volume capacity is increasing. After applying FAT32 partition format, a big volume hard drive can be definite as a partition but not be divided into multiple partitions. It is good for management to hard drive. Now, FAT32 is replaced by NTFS.

About NTFS

NTFS is standard file system after Windows NT, 2000, XP, server 2003, server 2008, Vista, and 7. It replaces FAT to offer file system for Microsoft. NTFS make advanced on FAT and HPFS, such as to support metadata.
The difference between NTFS and FAT
As mentioned above, NTFS and FAT both are file system. However, NTFS is produced late than FAT32, but NTFS is more advanced in technology. In summary, the specific distinction are following below:
NTFS can support up to 64GB single file and 2048GB partition. FAT32 supports up to single file with 4GB and partition with 32G.
NTFS does not need Defragment your hard disk.
NTFS support to compress partition, folders and files.
NTFS takes a little cluster, which can help to manage space of hard drive effectively, and avoid wasting space of hard drive at the most extent.
In NTFS partition, you can share sources, folders and set access permissions on files. It is more secured than FAT32 partition.
How to know which partition format is suitable for you
As mentioned above, NTFS and FAT32 have its own advantages. When we choose which file system, you should consider the factors below:
Computer is installed with single system, or multiple systems.
The number and capacity of local installed hard disk.
Whether has consideration about security or not.
If computer is installed single system, and there is security to consider, you can select FAT32. Or NTFS is not bad choice absolutely.
Why need to convert NTFS External Hard Drive to FAT32?
NTFS and FAT32 are two different types of file systems, and both of them are commonly used and contain different characters. You may make conversions between the two types, and here we got several cases that you need to convert external hard drive to FAT32:
If your external hard drive is formatted in NTFS, you would not be able to access some files from DOS mode or Windows 9X, then you need to covert external hard drive to FAT or FAT32.
NTFS can't be recognized by many devices, such as Xbox 360, PS3, etc. in that case, you have to convert the external hard drive to FAT32 so that it can work with your devices.
There are more situations in which you need to convert external hard drive to FAT32, and there are different ways which you may realize the goal.
Methods to convert NTFS External hard drive to FAT32
At present, there are two main ways that you may convert external hard drive to FAT32, one is to convert to FAT32 with Windows built-in Disk Management, and another one is to convert to FAT32 with third-party software like AOMEI Partition Assistant. Let's see the details:

Method1: Convert an External Hard Drive by reformatting

1. Open the Disk Management in Windows.
2. Right click on the external hard drive and select "Format..." in the drop-down menu.
3. Select "FAT32" in the "File system" line and then choose "Quick format".
4. Finally click "Start" to format, and this process may cost you minutes.
Note: If the drive is larger than 32GB, the "FAT 32" option would be invalid and once format, the information or data in the external hard drive will disappear. So, backup the data or partition if necessary and you need to know how to convert hard drive larger than 32GB into FAT32.

Method2: Convert an External Hard Drive without formatting

You can download the third-party software to convert external hard drive from NTFS to FAT32, what is the most advantage is that convert NTFS to FAT32 without data loss. Comparing with disk management in computer, the third-party software will save your time and money. You don't need to buy other external hard drive to store data, just for converting partition format. Of the third-party software, AOMEI Partition Assistant is good choice. The specific introduction of how to convert NTFS external hard drive to FAT32.

As a kind of advanced partition software, AOMEI Partition Assistant can easily convert an external hard drive to FAT32, and you can also convert an external hard drive larger than 32GB into FAT32. This software is running well with Windows platform including Windows 2000, XP, Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8. Both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows editions are supported. With its help, you need no to format your external hard drive and thus you can convert NFTS to FAT32 without data loss. Now, you may download AOMEI Partition Assistant Pro Edition and have a try.

I have a 1tb Buffalo HD-PCU2 ministation. I want it formatted as Fat 32 to use on my Humax recorder but Windows vista or 7 don't recognise it? Is it fixable?

FYI: fay32 doesn't support files larger than 2GB so if your putting movies than do NTFS.

To format as FAT32 you have to open an command prompt as admin. Window Button > All Programs > Accessories > Right CLICK command prompt and run as admin.

<VOL> = your drive letter ex E:
Command to format as FAT32

format <VOL> /FS:FAT32 /X

Is WDBAAU0015HBK is fat 32 system file format? IsWDBAAU0015ABK is also available? How to convert my existing seagate 1tb hard disk from ntfs to fat32 with out making partition?

You can convert FAT32 to NTFS, but you cannot reverse this process. If you want to set up the hard drive for FAT32 you need to delete the NTFS partition the create a new partition and then format in FAT32.

How do i format my mp3 player without a disk

I don't know if this is affected by the 'network' aspect of your player, but this would be the general procedure for MP3 players, where you can view the player as a drive on your computer.

You can format the player using Windows, but there is a complication: Windows defaults to "NTFS" when formatting, but MP3 players normally use FAT32. Before you attempt this, connect the player, and check the 'properties' on the drive that appears. It will probably say "FAT32". In this case, you can go ahead and format the drive, but be sure that you choose "FAT32" from the drop-down list. If you format it NTFS, your player won't be able to read it!

I can not get my yp-t8 to download to my pc my pc is xp home and the driver that ihave is win 98

Hello,

If the driver you mention is only for Win98, it is of no use in XP.

For the YP-T8 there are 3 model players, that might need different driver, software and firmware (under OS there's a listing for the supported Operating Systems).
Select your model on next page:
http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/search/supportSearchModelResult.do?menu=SP00&searchWord=ypt8&default_searchInputBox_value=Enter+model+number+or+keywords&searchInputBox=yp-t8
Next select the matching driver, software for your computer.
Download and install the driver and software.

Also look under firmware, to see if there are updates for the player.

Recording stops within 10 minutes

Hi G-DyBiec

If the video capture automatically stops capturing at approximately 18 minutes (17 minutes and 55 seconds), then most likely the drive that is being capture to, is formated using Microsoft's FAT32 file system. Microsoft's FAT32 file system has a maxium file size of 4 GigaBytes (4 GB), which equates to a DV video clip of nearly 18 minutes. (18 minutes = 1080 seconds, @ a data rate of 3.6 MB/sec is approximately 4GB). So for hard drives that are formatted using FAT32, this behavior is normal. This is not a limitation of Studio..

To see what file system your hard drive uses do the following:

1. Right click on the Start button and choose Explore
2. Under My Computer, locate and highlight the drive you are capturing to
3. Right click and select Properites
4. On the General tab, towards the top, it will say "File System". It will be listed as either FAT32 or NTFS.

There are a few solutions if your drives are formatted using FAT32:
  1. Convert your FAT32 hard drive to NTFS *
  2. If you can copy any important data from this drive to other drives, it may be faster to re-format the FAT32 drive using the NTFS file system. **
  3. You can do multiple 18 minute captures and string them together in the Edit mode of Studio.
    • Since the first 18 minutes is already captured, rewind the camcorder or VCR to 5 - 10 seconds before the initial capture stopped (which can be edited out later in Studio).
    • Start a new capture to a new file name.
    • Repeat this process until all the desired video is captured from the tape.
    • After all the files have been captured, go to Edit and assemble the captured files from the Album to the timeline in the order you desire.
This is a manual method to workaround Microsoft's FAT32 file system and if this is too time intensive for your needs, then steps 1 and 2 above may be more suitable and should be considered.
* Note: If you need assistance with step 1 above, go to the Microsoft web site at http://www.microsoft.com/ and search on "convert FAT32 to NTFS".
** Note: If you need assistance with step 2 above, go to the Microsoft web site at http://www.microsoft.com/ and search on "how to format a drive in XP".

NOTE: Microsoft's NTFS file system is only supported on Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Vista. NTFS support a file size of 4 TB (terra bytes), which is larger than any current consumer hard drive capacity, so if NTFS is used, the capture file size will only be limited by the size of the hard drive.

I am unable to format my Maxtor One Touch III 500gig External Hard Drive. Once i get to 100% using ms disk manager, a message box pops up saying that it was unable to format the hard drive. In linux when i...

If it shows up in windows explorer as a drive, right click it and choose format and choose ntfs as the file format.

Do you know what format it is when you use linux? I dont think you can use a dos command to format an ntfs volume. Your message probably means it cant read FAT or FAT32 because it probably already is NTFS file format.
