When i turn on my ps3 the xmb menu wont show....

You can enable or disable auto run in the settings area on the XMB, but I've never heard of the disc not showing up at all. Even if the disc was unreadable, the PS3 would say "Corrupted Data" or something. You should go through your PS3's settings and see if there's anything that's not right. Maybe there's a "Hide disk" option enabled. Sorry I couldn't help more.

Unfortunately a similar issue happened to me as well, and I had to send my PS3 in for repair (hardware issue; the disc drive broke). But maybe what I was told to do will work for you! Here's what I tried.

Easiest solution? Make sure your system is updated. Who knows, maybe it's a firmware thing. Go to XMB > Settings > System Update and run it.

For the next couple of things, you're going to want to backup everything on your PS3. The Backup Utility can be found in the System Settings Menu on the Settings Menu on the XMB menu (XMB > Settings > System Settings). More info on how to backup your information can be found on the Playstation website, found here.

With your data backed up, try the different options in Safe Mode. This link will show you how to access it. Try options 2, 3, 4 and 5, in that order, and see if it's reading discs in between each one. Anything after 2 will delete your data; thus the need to make a backup.

If that doesn't work, either try the online Knowledge Center (but it'll probably tell you do try things I've already outlined here) or send in your PS3 for repair (if it's under warranty, it's free!)

Hope you're able to fix it! Sending it in takes forever; you won't get your PS3 back for a month or two.

Sounds like your cpu has overheated and separated from the board, causing it to freeze before loading the xmb.

For cd's go in the xmb to music, for dvd's and blu-ray movies goto movies in the xmb.
Game blu-ray discs will be started from in the game menu in the xmb.

The option run automaticly should be turned on in tehe settings of the ps3 by default, else you have to start them manualy, as described above.

update ure system software

It sounds like a system file error due to trying to hack background, so check the CSS template and the theme.css to see if they are present in the theme folder. You will have to take hdd out and run on a pc to do this, you can find how to remove hdd by looking on search engine. If you get a 403 error, that means you are not allowed access. You will have to delete and reload the file from a known working ps3 hdd.

when you switch the ps3 on if you hold down the power button for more than 4 seconds it runs the display setup. and sets the ps3 to run in the best possible option
