Start small; check the game/movie disc/discs. Can you confirm that the disc works? (Try it in another PS3, for example). Are you putting the discs in facing the right way?
Next restart the PS3. Then shut down the PS3, unplug it from the outlet then plug it back in.
progress? Make sure your system is updated. Who knows, maybe it's a
firmware thing. Go to XMB > Settings > System Update and run it.
Still nothing? Okay, are the game's not being detected at all, or are they not playing (as in, it shows up but when you start it the screen blacks out). If it's the screen thing, let's try resetting the video settings. Turn off the PS3, then press and hold the power button (as if to turn it on) until it beeps. The video settings will be reset. You can re-set them to your preferences by going to XMB > Settings > Display Settings > Video Output Settings.
Problems? Still? Jeez. Now we get technical. First I would suggest backing up
your data, as things can and will get deleted in the next couple of
suggestions. Use the Backup Utility (XMB > Settings > System Settings > Backup Utility) to store everything. You can then restore all your data later on.
With your data backed up, try the different options in Safe Mode. This link will show you how to access it.
Try options 2, 3, 4 and 5, in that order, and see if it's reading discs
in between each one. Anything after 2 will delete your data; thus the
need to make a backup.
Still no luck? Unfortunately you're
probably going to have to send your console in for repair (hardware problems). Sony provides
a form on their website to request a repair; here's a link.If
you're under warranty it's free; otherwise it's expensive (150$ I
believe). The worst part about this option is they take forever; you
won't see your console again (or it's replacement) for at least a month,
more likely two.
if the disc is spinning with some clacking noise then its all right, use the manual eject button 3 to 4 times. Now the disc should be sited on the disc plate. If you think that this works but not through the software then update the firmware. On new slim PS3 disc stuck,it doesnt void your warranty. Thanks for using Fixya
I had kinda the same problem, but my ps3 was able to get to the home screen. I never tried the problem out on a ps2 game, but when I put anything BlueRay into the system, I would also get that blank, blue AV screen. Because I was able to access my home screen, I looked around and found that I had corrupted data on my system. Now, I'm not sure how to get you back to your home screen, but if you're ever able to, the only solution that I found was to wipe the hard drive of the corrupted data, by going to the Game option on the home screen, then scrolling down to either Game Data Utility or Saved Data Utility. That's where you'll find it. Unfortunately, this will mean you'll have to wipe your entire hard drive of all your saved data.
I know it sucks, but I hope this helps...
otherwise have people look at it.
It may be a resolution setting issue...the game may be outputting in a resolution that your tv doesnt support. Try going to your video settings and knocking the resolution back to 720p for your HDMI output....in settings under video, select your ouptut, and uncheck the boxes next to the types above 720p. Also make sure you have latest software update for ps3.
