There is a Onkyo recall or service program being offered. I'm not sure if your unit is included, but here is a site to check the serial number to see if it's qualified:

SOURCE: no surround sound

So your saying that you have no rear channel. Some recivers use a single stereo output ic for both sides on the rear speakers. you could have a defect with this IC . Anther thing Im sure you check3ed the obvious ie : the switch is on suround sound? If there is a front to rear fader is it in the middle? Good Luck

SOURCE: Onkyo TX-SR500 Dolby Digital problem

I just read over the problem you were having with your Onkyo TX-SR500 receiver. It sound like the unit needs to be setup for all five channels.Sence your symptom says the diplay shows Dolby D3/2.1. According to the owners manual with the remote control look for speaker setup whin the button is pressed the current speaker setup will be shown in the display. Press the preset/adjustment<> to change the current setting to five speakers. the listening mode will automatically change according to the number of channels you selected. Hope this helps. Hi have a Onkyo TX-SR601 after using it for a while it shuts down.

The problem could be bad solder connections on the main, or the audio outputs are breaking down when they get hot.

Message states the power to zone 2 is not activated when trying to listen to zone 2 speakers. Nothing in my manual about this message. How do I activate power to zone 2 on a tx-sr601

Page 77:

"Not available in Zone 2 mode" Setting not allowed because the Zone 2 mode is turned on.

"Zone 2 is not On" Will not work because the Zone 2 has not been turned on.

TURN ZONE 2 ON.

Sound cuts out especially when commercials come on. I turn off receiver then turn back on and the sound is back.

Sounds to me like you may need to turn off the 'Smart Sound' feature as this sometimes malfunctions causing the sound to turn down to almost nothing, and sometimes nothing at all. 'Smart Sound' is a feature that keeps a units volume from going way up when commercials come on... A lot of advertisers have it set to where their ads are broadcast a bit, sometimes quite a bit louder, that the normal broadcast, they do this to ensure you hear their ads... Hope that's all it is, Best of luck!

More watts needed

Add another power amp to line outs from your main amp to your speakers this will give more power(current) to your main speakers as you have decreased load on main amp

Onkio receiver

The output transistors should be replaced in pairs. Also, It may not be just the output transistors that are defective. If you have no experience with these types of repairs, I would suggest that you bring the unit to a service shop. The outputs will run about $15-$25 per pair.

Hi santka

It sounds like it has locked up from a power surge. Try a full reset of the unit by powering it down completely unplugging it from the wall socket overnight. If it still misbehaves, get back to me here and we can look into it more.
