Try to use a cd cleaner or if you are familiar in electronic troubleshooting unplug the unit, then remove the cover, use a cotton buds and wipe the optical lens be careful not to touch the lens, and you can also check the flex wire try to unplug and plug the flex, to remove the flex wire observe the connector both edge you will see a plastic clip that holds the flex wire try to pull it, but be careful you may damage the connector if you use force. 1-check the cd it most to be clean 2-turn on the dvd 3-if is on, replace the spin motor , locate in the mechanism. if no on. replace the power supply. 4-if it dont work, replace the lens flex.
power off your dvd, disconnect the plug from the power source and then reconnect it again. Power on the unit again and try to resume normal operation. If it cannot still play a dvd much less a cd, then you need to have it repaired. At the most, the flex needs to be replaced or your lens is damaged in which case it needs replacement. Try also locating for a reset button on your unit. Just press the reset button if there is one on your dvd player for about 5 seconds to restore it to its original factory setting
if your talking about a flex upgrade the answer is yes, but you will need the tech. menu codes, to actually install it. without it it wont do anything.
now if your talking about downloading movies, and burning them to a dvd, and making them play then yes if u burn the video files into a dvd format.
if your talking about burning music, then yes that will play also.
open your dvd player and check the flex cable that is connected to lens from module replace that flex but if he did not read again the cd try to replace the lens.
Most likely it is one of three things. I have had to repair mine.
1) Pulled out LASER (red head) Flex cable or connector
2) Mechanical binding of the linear slide mechanism
3) The actual Flex circuit connector on the Read Head has pins lifted up from the small circuit board due to some sort of stress - I repaired mine under a microsope with a very small Antex soldering iron.
