Doesn't sound like your battery has enough juice , cranking amps to get the flywheel going. Test your battery and starter. If you have a multimeter this will help...
By what you say about it will start using a jump start...sounds like your battery is still producing 12.5 volts but does not have the power to turn the engine( load volts ) have it load tested at your local battery dealer or auto parts that sells mower batteries..or you can buy one for about $25 and test it yourself..a bad or weak battery will drop to about 10 volts when the load/start is applied..not enough to to turn the engine..in the meantime try this...most times when you shut down your engine it will stop on the compression stroke..needing max power when you try to start it again..good battery not a problem weak one will not turn engine or just click..try turning your engine by hand to get it off the compression stroke..simply turn the top of your engine where the cooling fan is you will feel it when it gets off compression..then try..a weak battery will at least try to turn the engine...As far as the color..they are both ground some have only one but work the same..the two main colors that stay constant are red for positive and black for neg ground can be any color just to identify it at the switch..,,but try reversing them see what happens..one more thing try temperarly bypassing the four safety switches with a wire or paper clip...remember THEY ARE FOR YOUR SAFETY SO ONLY TEMPERARLY...even though you replaced them with new some can be bad...good luck..
I'm guessing a "weak battery" is the problem. Sometimes a fresh new battery can make a piece of equipment run "like new"..... Also, you might make sure battery is high enough capacity... If all this does you no good, I'd guess you have a "tired" or worn out starter...
check your valve adjustments, quite common for this to happen when the valves go too far out of adjustment.....it will work better with them adjusted too
try to make sure all connections are clean. i have this same machine that does exactly what you are saying. if battery is all charged up. try setting parking brake.Put in neutral, get off the machine and turn the key. this is what i do and machine cranks fast and starts. my issue is in that saftey switch in my seat.
Take the spark plugs out when this occurs and try to pull it through--does it expel fuel or oil? This should tell you whether you have a flooding fuel problem, or maybe the crankcase is overfull of oil causing it to leak into the combustion chamber through worn valve seals or piston rings. Hope this helps!
You needv to check whatever the tractor uses for a decompresser, whether it be a lobe on the cam or the camshaft it's self.Sounds like it's not decommpressing during crank. You may need to just set the valves.
I worked at a tool rental center while attending college and encountered the problem that you are having many times. The problem was caused be a variety of issues however can be determined by checking the following:
Worn starter motor bearings that would be indicated by higher than normal amp draw. Check for hot starter motor or hot cables.
Weak battery. The battery should be removed and tested for free at auto parts store. The battery should be replace every season to extend the life of the starter motor.
Belts or hydraulic pump that is not fully releasing from engine pulley or output shaft. Remove the spark plugs from the engine and tune engine by hand, it should turn rather freely.
Finally, compression release feature of engine is not working properly. Check engine service manual for proper adjustment of valves so that compression release will work. Finally check oil level for over full. Too much oil will raise compression. Good luck with your problem and email for more info.
