My computer HP Pavillion DV 6000 turns on and i hear the windows jingle, so i know that it is opening...but the screen remains grey...cannot get anything to work or change...how can i fix this problem
Try connecting an external monitor and see if that gives you video - if that works, your laptop screen may have gone bad and need replacing. If it does not work, check that you are not running in too dark a screen or the wrong mode. I dont know specifically which HP key code changes this but there should be pictures on your "F" keys to indicate this. Remember to push down the"Fn" key at the same time.

The fastest way to eliminate the video section of your PC is to use the VGA port with an external monitor.
If you can get any kind of video, then the problem is narrowed down to either the fluorescent backlight itself or the inverter that supplies it with high voltage; neither of these have any influence on the video output to an external monitor.
The LCD section itself can't really fail at once since it is made up of tiny pixels and while it isn't uncommon for indivdual ones to fail, the likelihood that all fail is very remote.
The problem is; without some technical skills, it would be tough to pin it down to one of these two.
The backlight tube is a specially formed fluroescent and if it appears to be blackened at either or both ends, then the tube is dead.
If it appears pristine, then the inverter is dead; this is normally a small board apart from the main board and not too bad to replace.
Accessing the backlight is of varying degrees of difficulty and if it isn't done carefully, you could damage the LCD portion.
If it seems to boot OK, if you peer at the screen from several shallow angles, you should be able to see some 'ghost' activity on the screen.

Sleep mode was originally implemented simply as a screen saver. In order to resolve the above issue you need to press CTL, ALT, DEL keys. As it awakens the computer and returns back to the Desktop screen and normal operation without rebooting your pc.
